He's worth a lot more as a keeper right now since he's proven that he can run the offense under pressure. I wouldn't trade him for anything right now. Enderle has Cutler's arm but reps less than sterling accuracy and no mobility so he still a work in progress and not a guy you want doing anything more than running the scout team and learning right now.
You're right about that, fellow mood swinger. Hanie is a proven commodity now. The two interceptions in the NFC Championship Game not withstanding, he brought us back to life in that game all by himself. The interception by B.J. "Blow Job" Raji could have been avoided had Martz simply run a draw play to give the Bears some extra yardage with which to work with in the kicking game. If we had done that, and had Lovie not put Todd Collins in the game in the third quarter instead of Hanie (especially after Urlacher's interception that he nearly took to the house - we could have scored on that series with at least a field goal had Hanie been directing the offense I do believe), we might have won the game. As it stands, Martz screwed us over yet again, and we lost the ultimate opportunity to play in a Super Bowl.

It's not like I can do anything about Jerry's decision to draft him. I'm not saying he's a bad player, I'm just upset with the choice to draft a QB.
Free agency isn't always the answer to look for linemen, you need to develop young linemen in your system.
In this instance, I have to disagree with you, gamma. There would have been no OL by the fifth round who would live up to what we need right now as a starter. Free agency has that and much more, especially if we don't go by 2010 rules.

I'm still pissed.
Picks 1 and 2 are terrific. I laugh, knowing now that JA worried KC was going to take Carimi and hustled (and fumbled) the pick-swap with Baltimore, only to have it work out for the best anyway.
Pick 3 chaps my backside. I can find nothing... nothing... that said this kid was going to go before the 6th round. So the kid has huge upside. This team is on the cusp, it doesn't need 'upside,' it needs help! It needs reinforcement at it's weakest areas, and while the secondary could use help, everyone and their blind grandmothers know the Bears need OL, and almost that many people know really, really good OL have come out of rounds 3-4.
JA could have taken another OL in round 3, gotten his precious Conte in round 5, skipped on the QB altogether and finish out the draft from there.

By any other NFL teams standards this draft would be a B+, as we filled two huge needs with very good players.
By Chicago Bears [Jerry Angelo] standards this draft is an A+, as not only did we get the OLmen we wanted we got the 3 technique we wanted.
You say that as if he drafted more than one.

Wait. What?
Am I missing something? Do you guys have some sort of special access to covert scouting information?
Are we forgetting that Cutler was a FIRST ROUND draft pick, because his talent and success warranted it? That JA paid 'through the nose' because that talent warrants it? That Enderle is nowhere near the talent Cutler is, that all the development in the world is not going to bring Mr. 5th Rounder up to the capability of Cutler?
JA's going to continue to pay through the nose for Cutler, just as every other team continues to pay through the nose, if they want to keep their premiere, elite-level QB on the team.
Rare are the Tom Bradys. Rare. Very, very rare.
This isn't 1983 anymore.
Nope, still pissed.

Mike mayock loved the pick said he was a 3rd rounder grade when drafted..
national football post had him as 3rd rounder
Espn had him a middle round pick
SI had him as a 3rd or 4th rounder
walter football had him as a 3rd rounder
nfl draft bible had him as a late 3rd rounder early 4th
about the only site even saw him later was nfl.com, not sure how you missed all those.

I will play devil advocate here and say your record from the previous year means shit now. Teams around you improve and you have to do likewise to keep up and ahead of the game. Adding just Carimi isnt going to improve the 30 th ranked offense all by itslef. There is still work to be done. The key word in your statement grizz is "were".

How would you like to make a friendly wager on the bears?

Could happen. Who ever expected Cassel to step in for Brady the way he did. All it takes is one good year to get teams drooling over you if you're a QB. Hell there are teams who probably have an interest in Hanie right now just off what he did against the Packers in one quarter.
