Not one of JA's smoother moves was he, LOL? I think we can all chalk that up to the fact that Angelo is just a very bad judge of horseflesh when it covers an Olineman. He made a few good moves way back when but those weren't all that hard to make when you sign vets who you know can play. His draft picks have been pretty miserable with few exceptions.
I think now that Tice has his ear all of that will change. Tice said that he'd love to have Carimi and when he got close they were willing
to even make a trade to get him. When has that ever happened before? I also think he gave Tice some choices in the later rounds but Tice didn't like anybody who was still on the board and would rather take his chances in FA or with what he has now.
In reality would any of us know if a 5th or 6th round Oline pick would be any better than guys like Johnson, Louis or EWill who've at least had some expereince in camp and games. Taking a late round guy who can't even grade out higher than the dregs of your line isn't a smart move either but in the past I believe that just what JA would have done before Tice came along.
I look to the past two years as an example. Without higher picks for a starting caliber lineman last year Tice found his guy in the 7th and actually made headway with him last year. This year he gets his starter in round one and can find no one he wants later on but if it all works out the way it's headed we just got two young starting OT's in the last two drafts. JA didn't become a better evaluator of OT's he just listened to someone who was. For that I give him credit.

I was hoping for Wisneisewski and Moffit myself. And like Soul said I'm glad JA now listens to Tice apparently and is willing to change his tendencies and trade up. Perhaps Ruskell has helped in that regard also.

Wouldn't it have been nice to be able to match up Carimi and Moffitt on the left side of our line like they did at Wisconsin. There was a time when I thought that Moffitt may slip back into the 4th or 5th and we'd take him but that thought got shot down on day two. I don't think there's any question that Tice has a madate to fix that Oline and the team will give him huge amounts of lattitude in doing so. If Tice says yes they go that way and if not they don't. That was very clear this draft.

Yeah getting Wisneisewski and Moffit would have went a long way towards a total makeover provided they panned out. Esp Moffit if he is pro-grade material. With those two carrying over and working well together might have been something. Oh well we have Cwill lol.

Makes sense, DB54.
When it came to our #3 the following potential options were all gone (McClain is a DT not a LB, btw, & we didn't need another DT after Paea):
Irving [LB]
Pettis, Hankerson, Baldwin (surprisingly high), & Little [WR]
3 straight CBs (Patrick + 2 others)
Wisniewski, Moffitt [OG/C]
House and Brown were still available at CB, but I assume that the Bears graded Conte as a more valuable secondary man than either of them. I also assume that Brewer wasn't of interest either. We were hugely fortunate to get both of our first two guys like we did, so it makes sense to expect that other positions were going to be pretty picked-over by the time the draft got to the bottom of 3.

Good points, Soul. We talked about this beforehand--all of us hoped that Tice would have substantial influence and say-so over whomever we took as our main OL selection (Carimi, Sherrod, Ijalana, etc...whomever was available wherever we decided to pull the trigger on an OLman). We all want whoever it was to be "Tice's best-available guy" not Jerry's.

With gratitude to the draft gods for our good fortune in 1-2, it was too just a little too much to ask but the possibility of getting...
1) Carimi
2) Paea
3) Wis or Moffitt
...was soooo tempting right after our 2nd round pick. Either of those two guys would have made for a dream-come-true 1st 3 rounds.

For those of you still really pissed off at the selection of Enderle in the 5th round I give you this. You see, we already have a 5th round OT/OG
prospect on the team.......and he sucks!!!!

What do you expect from a GM that is out of his league when it comes to judging talent. lol Either we break the bank for ship a ton of draft picks for legit talent or we dumpster dive and raid other teams practice squad players.

Any way you slice it, us getting Carimi is definitely a shot-across-the-bow for CW. I know the guy has been hurt and he hasn't had enough continuity at one position to fully develop yet, but this is looking like it's going to be his year to fish-or-cut-bait so to speak. It shapes up for preseason with Williams, Webb, and Carimi competing for 2 starting OT spots. If, as I suspect, that CW becomes the odd man out there, he's left with nailing down the LG job and holding onto it. Otherwise, CW will prob be sliding down the depth chart and his future with the team will be far from certain. I really hope that he rallies and steps up big time in whatever position he starts the season at. I wanna see the guy succeed and become an OL fixture for us.

Cwill still has a chance to be a decent athletic guard. He does do some good things well in pass-pro (far better than Omiyale) and is quick when he pulls. I'd feel much better about his future if he could play some center.
