What's worse, drafting him or signing him as a free agent?

It was meant to poke some fun but in actuality another Omiyale would have been just as likely in the 5th this year as he was in 2005. At that point all of the picks are 80% a crap shoot and if we can believe it Omiyale still may develop into a decent swingman. He's just not a good starter and I can't imagine what was left on the board in the 5th this year wouldn't be either.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

For those of you still really pissed off at the selection of Enderle in the 5th round I give you this. You see, we already have a 5th round OT/OG
prospect on the team.......and he sucks!!!!

Funny as shit, Soul!
I'm over the Enderle pick and Conte is growing on me too.
I had hoped somehow Wisniewski would fall to us in the 3rd, but that wasn't even close. Got a little greedy after our good fortunes with Carimi & Paea!

Thanks MP. Glad you appreciated the humor even though it was a little barbed, LOL. I was just trying to restore some common sense to that 5th round debate. I would have rather seen an OC/C type guy too but if none still on the board were worth it Enderle may prove to be a better investment than we realize.
You make a good point regarding Wisniewski. We do mocks here and others do them as well but many are done in a perfect world that doesn't consider the needs of other teams who draft before us. Sox is 100% correct when he says that the only way to do a decently good mock is to do it for all 32 teams and all 7 rounds. Quite a few of the key mid round prospects that were discussed here went long before our 3rd round pick and by the 5th I can't remember any from Windy's mocks who was still there.
Case in point. Windy frequently had OC Tim Barnes as a 4th or 5th round choice. Seemed like a good pick at that spot but Barnes is still out there, wasn't even drafted. Same with Austin Pettis. Windy had him as a good pick with our 4th but he went early in three. Dowling went top of two not late two or early three where he was mocked if we traded down with our first.
I'm willing to bet that the Bears had several Olineman pegged for that 3rd round pick who all came off the board before #93. I may have opted for a CB but I think when JA saw this kid Conte who was ranked as the 2nd or 3rd best FS in the draft and they looked at his upside he was just to good to pass up in comparison to CB's who ranked far below him. It may not have been the perfect need pick but it was still a good pick. Anyway FA is supposed to be where you fill your immediate needs and the draft is for getting youth and talent on your rosted. I think all of the first three picks will end up as high performance starters for us.
Enderle? Well I think JA and Lovie made it clear to Mr. Martz that he would not be getting a vet QB THIS year and that Hanie WOULD be his #2 guy. So there was little choice other than having to get Martz another somewhere along the line and Enderle was who Martz wanted and the 5th is where we needed to take him or risk losing him. This is where trading the 4th hurt us some. We got great value in Paea with it but lost out on the last opportunity for a Olineman or WR in four once that happened.
I really don't know why the hub bub though. JA said that he would look to draft a QN again this year and we should be thankful he didn't burn an earlier pick on one. Do I wish we could have gone another direction, hell yes. But was it practical to do it, no.

not just wisneisewski( OG), but also pettis(WR),Hankerson (WR) nate irving(LB),terrell mcclain(LB), john moffit( OG),william rackey(OG)
, wright(CB),curtis marsh(cb) and johhnie patrick(Cb).. basically after gettign some lucky breaks in rounds one and two... the poistions of need at OG/CB and LB,, had all the top choices blown away by the time we picked... which is why IMO we went with what( we can argue to the cows come home if will happen), the bears thought the perfect fit at FS for them was, over a much lower choice at the 3 other poistions
