I'm here to tell you, don't be surprised if he winds up being the second string QB. You know that Mike Martz has a major hate on for Caleb Hanie, else he would have played him in the Carolina game and would NEVER have put Todd Collins in as the number two QB.

Not sure what the deal is, but the lack of Hanie in Carolina, and the attempt at Collins in Green bay AFTER the complete meltdown in SC.... then you look at how well Hanie did when FINALLY given the chance, and he almost won us that game... that one dumb INT for a TD and I'm pretty sure we walk away with a win from our 3rd stringer... but enough with could have's and shoulda's...
the Lack of opportunities for Hanie when it was clear he was leaps and bounds a better option over the guy who looks more like a frackin PUNTER than a god damn QB was enough to make anyone consider your point as more than a possiblity.... maybe martz does have a dislike for Hanie.... sure as hell seems that way.

There's no way that he doesn't. He's already talking about there being a competition for the second slot at quarterback this year, and he liked Enderle enough to advise Jerry Angelo to draft him as early as he did. Caleb Hanie was just an afterthought for most of last year until the NFC Championship Game. You're right. Just imagine what we could have done had Cutler been able to stay healthy the entire game. Hanie came in cold and nearly led us to glorious victory over our hated rivals.

Don't think they'll take that chance again Benji. They did it last year because they signed Collins and Hanie was hurt but not on IR. This year there will be no vet, and Gutierrez is an UDFA, so the #3 spot is pretty much Enderle's to lose. We'll carry 3 QB's and I'd be willing to bet Enderle is one of them.

I don't think Martz dislikes Hanie anymore than he does any other inexperienced QB. Maybe the fact that Haine wasn't his choice and was with the team when he arrived has something to do with it. Now Martz has his personally chosen developmental guy but he surely can't deny Hanie the #2 spot going into camp. Not after the way he played in that last quarter against the Packers.
The party line on using Collins was that he practiced better and knew the offense better and that's why he got the #2 spot. Maybe they forgot that games take place at full speed and with a pass rush because the moment Collins had to cope with that he got depansed. Martz may not like it but Hanie has won the #2 spot fair and square and I believe he'll keep it throughout the year.

Martz would have to have a reason to hate Hanie and I cant figure out what it is. Maybe he just had no idea who he was or what he could do.
Whats interesting is that now that he knows what he can do he still goes draft to get another one and hopefully thats just to carry 3 QB's on the roster.
And DONT put Enderle on the practice squad!
Hard to believe Hanie is a four year Vet...how time flys.
But yeah...carry 3 QB's on the team...FRANCHISE...Hanie...Enderle , makes sense.

Well if the goal is to keep this thread going to 13 pages...
Rex's problem was he wasnt Drew Brees.
In fact in the near future Drew Brees problem is he is Drew Brees, height wise.
You also saw what we did to the shorty DOG KILLER...height wise.
The OL in the NFL is catching up to the height of Brady's, Rothliesburger's ...Etc.
The taller the QB the taller the line.
Robert Gallery would have been dismissed as a freak only a few years ago as a guard.
Too tall.
Now thats everyday stuff.
Carimi is 6'7"
Herman Johnson is 6'8"
Webb is 6'8"
Chris Williams is 6'6"...the runt outside of Kreutz.
All five COULD be starters with Tice at the helm.
Now it comes down to a question of mobility...
granted you have assembled the LARGEST OL ever seen by DAA BEARRSSE...
in fact this may well be the largest OL in NFL history...
but can these mothers BLOCK and PUSH THE LINE for RB holes?
We wont know until we get there.
I like to think that the reason we passed on another OL with the third pick,
was because TICE had his guy signed already with Johnson.
He did make Webb.

And now we have to QUESTION THE LOGIC of having big FAT body LT & RT's,
who weigh in at 300lbs.+ going up against 270/290 Lb. DE's.
DE's at that weight are going to be FASTER off the mark.
So have LT and RT's equal the DE's weight...+10lbs.
Any excess pounds just slows the LT and RT's down.
The only place you need a widebody at is at CENTER...to stop Raji. We dont have the weight there where we need it most.
And two heavy Guards to make the push along with the Center for running plays.
At this point in time Webb is coming in at 330 lbs., at RT he is blocking swift 280 lb. DE's.
Thats an extra 50 lbs. to move around...he's gonna lose.
If we play him inside at guard then the 330 lbs. makes sense to be a pusher.
Thats where TICE has to decide who goes where.
Getting the youngbloods playing time COULD look like : Carimi-C.Williams-Kreutz-H.Johnson-Webb.
Thats only one possibility of many.

Nice thing is, next year we can trade Cutler back to Denver and bring back Orton to back up Enderle, and get some extra draft picks so we can draft more QBs and safeties.
