Every scouting report I read on Bowman says the same thing Dags. Great size, speed, coverage and ball skills but a poor tackler. That alone won't endear him in Lovies zone defense. They all say that because of his injury history he's a definite boom or bust type who may have been a first or second round pick had he remained healthy. We got him in the 5th and so far that's been about what he's been worth.

His biggest issues are exactly what I posted prior to this. He was a coverage corner in college and as such he's having difficulty adjusting to his role as a cover-2 zone CB. He wants to play the man and not his coverage responsibility and that's why he gets lured out of position and we get burned. When he can shade his man and play the ball he's very good and he has the speed to stick with most anyone but his work in a zone is weak and he doesn't wrap up his tackles.

Like I said, he's a boom or bust kind of guy and we've seen both sides of him now. If he doesn't make it this year he probably won't be around next.

Players coming into the NFL need to be more flexible, or at the very least, teams need to draft players who were based in defenses at their schools similar to what they will be working in at the pro level. That was apparently Jerry Angelo's oversight in this case, and he may well come to regret it if Josh Moore doesn't produce or if we can't get someone in free agency like Ike Taylor or Chris Carr.

We would all like Asomugha but we wont get him.

What scares me is the rumors I hear from other fans on other boards about Deeeeeeeetroit or G.B. wanting him.

If he signs out of the NFC North I'm happy, I dont want him in the NFC North if he's not wearing Navy & Orange.

I would pitch Asomugha that if he signs with us we go to the SUPERBOWL with him aboard.

(You can modify the Tampa-2 to fit in that talent)

G.B. has proven they can get there without him. But think dynasty.

Deetroit would have to go further but could point to their DL pickups as up and comers.

More this than the former Dags. If you build your team around alwasy trying to fit square pegs into round holes you won't have much success. Think about your own talents for a moment. You spend years developing skills and then you get hired to do a job that forces you to disregard them and subsitute others. Anybody would suffer some performance loss under those circumstances.

That's why the best personnel people in the world look for fits within their systems which are not always the best and the brightest the market has to offer. You don't need a Wharton School of Business MBA to run the night shift at Burger King. Pro football is no different but there are so many more factors such as fan popularity and marketing concerned that winning alone isn't always the only deciding factor in who plays.

Overall I think the Bears have gotten pretty adept at drafting and signing guys who fit their systems but that's not to say they're perfect. Bowman may be one of those guys who despite his obvious talents just doesn't fit the needs as well as others may.

That's the sad part of the whole thing, Soul. He was able to create turnovers in 2009, but then he got on Lovie's shit list this past season for blowing some coverages early in the season. I think Bowman was done for by the first Packers game. Maybe he'll adapt, but it sounds like the old cliche that goes, "You can't change the spots on a leopard," or something to that effect.
