we can only hope- and IMO-think that was more a hamstring torn literally off the bone and having to be surgerically put back on and followed the next year by a cheapshot from columbo that tore the ACL/MCL from his knee... than the contract( he lost almost 50% of the value of the contract, because didn't get any of the incentives, so don't think it was the contract, but the injuries). unfort its football and injuries and career's after never the same for many. here's to Paea not having those injuries!.

Could be that, too, but just weird how he really appeared at the end of last year. But crunch time is when you want them to show up anyway.

just my opinion, like many injured athlete's before him and will be after him- just not the same after the injuries( despite trying to have the belief they are), esp as "burst and speed" were what made harris Special, just never got it back- and like many injured players, seems you can have a game or 2 like the "old days", but then the swelling/pain etc see to kick in and can't sustain the better play for a longer period. See this with injured Rb's alot... but in any case, he isn't a bear anymore, so out with the old and in with the New : )

And to gve you the "otherside" of the traylor/washington "scheme", was while no one ran up the middle on that "D". no Qb worried about an inside pass rush either, and pretty sure saw Qb's havign a beer and hot dog back there, while waitng for W's to come open, soemtimes 6-8 seconds after the play, becaue neither could get up field.. and sweps to the putside were a nice 6-7 yard gains, because those 2 not chasing a thing.. in 2002, we had 35 sacks, 2003 a pathetic 18.5.. FOR THE YEAR... so will disagree they did 'great things".. they did a great job holding the line and god-awful job penetrating or getting Pressure on the QB...And esp when playing the Tampa-2, you need that penetrating DT and DE's to b successful and the LB's for the run support
and our defense without a true 3 tech guys and two NT types were one of the best defenses against the run. We didnt have the best pressure on the qb but we straight torched peoples run games. It propelled us to a top ten defense. Sure we would like to have a Warren Sapp but those players dont fall from trees. It isnt the end of the world since Lovie finally got sick of Tommie and we got to see to NT playing last year.................IT WORKED!!!!! When we get our chance at drafting a Suh type player then we can get back to that tampa two stuff. Until then make what we have work

it was more then injuries with that guy. Even before he signed his extension he was puffing about retiring. Since signing his contract he was disinterested and the fact he was suspended multiple times for conduct detrimental to the team proves it. He had no heart

i'd not call adams, big toe, tommie or any DT we had on the roster last year "wide body, space eating true NT's"...like a raji or pat williams or traylor or washington... they *all* miss by about 50+ lbs at least : )

I will never say no to having wide bodies on the line who are good at their job.
Trouble is that you'd almost never find a guy like that on a Lovie Smith defense with a Dline coached by Rod Marinelli. Both like smaller quicker guys and Paea is almost indentical in size to Warren Sapp and about 20-25lbs heavier than John Randle when he played. Both of those guys were about 6'1" as well.
The Ted Washington/Keith Traylor types where of the Jauron era because he wanted to screen blockers from reaching Uralcher since he had trouble shedding blocks at times. Now with Briggs as the mop up tackler and Urlacher not being required to plug holes the way old style MLB's do the need for that kind of DT in the Bears defense is gone.
Guys like Raji and/or Wilfork are 330lb two gap NT's who fit better in a 3-4 than a 4-3 like the Bears play. Even our NT's like Adams and Toeina don't go more than 310lbs. Mobility and penetration is more important than eating space and taking on double teams. Picture this; Adams and Paea are almost exactly the size and style players that Sapp and McFarland were in Tampa's hey day.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
