Okay, who's our LT again?
I remember reading on here, and i think a couple of the Chicago newspapers that Webb is perfectly fit for playing RT, that he doesn't have the agility and all that to protect the QB's blindside, esp. against the better DE. Now we have Carimi, whom everyone, it seems, is saying is a perfect RT and that Webb should move over to the left side. I've not been able to figure this one out. Obviously one of them have to play LT, but why, exactly is Webb expected to be LT? Is it because he has a year under his belt in this system, or that he showed potential to be able to play it at the end of the year?

I think a combination of both. You look how much Webb improved over the year and it's easy to see why the Bears believe in him like they do. Obviously Training camp and pre-season will be the major barometers for who will end up where, but any way you cut it we're set at tackle. if we can get ONE of our current roster memebers to improve like webb did (which certainly is possible given our line coach) at the Gaurd spot, we'll be more than solid at O-line at least to get us through to next years draft... which... thinking ahead, we grab another stud O-line in the first like Carimi and we're looking at a young studly O-line to protect Jay into his twilight years.

Chris Williams. I won't say Webb won't play LT, but he won't for very long. My guess is 3 games and I would probobly bet the under on that.

Really??? What makes you say that?

I think that any plan to shuffle guys around is damaged by the lockout. We need OTA's and a full camp to be effective at any such switch. And unless they plan to play OMFG at LT, there will be a switch.

I'm sure someone will have it nailed down by week 10.

Looking at some of the pass rushers we face next season a big slow guy like Webb is going to get spun like mad. He's too raw and these things don't come quickly I don't care who your O-line coach is. Not to mention it's the second week of May and he's gotten no coaching playing that position.
We'll be better off with a finesse blocker and right now Williams is our best one.

I'm not trying to beat up on williams, and I still have hope for the guy.... but last year he could have been the spokesman for Tide...

That's what I was thinking to Grizz. Webb played LT in college albeit against pretty weak competition but it's hard for me to believe that Tice didn't see some ability in him to play LT in the pros. I think it comes down to one of those two because unless he plans putting CWill there and using not Carimi at OG one of the three is gonna sit and I don't think that will happen.
I'm glad to see you're optimistic about the line too. All we have to do is pick up a vet OG who can step in and start in FA and that with a little more time playing together and I think we have the makings of a pretty good Oline.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

And I wonder how much that had to do with the left guard playing next to him.
I can see Williams improving faster than Webb and I in no way believe we have seen the best Williams has to offer.
