I don't have major problems with the "bend but don't break" philosophy of Lovies cover-2 but there are times when we need more aggressive CB play. Not a major philosophical change, just an adjustment.
we are on the same page Soul- agree with needing some more aggessiveness at times- just not all the time..take it by game situation

(I'm not calling the Bears cheap in any way. I was just making reference to what you just said.)
With our scheme focused on qb pressure I would rather sign Ray Edwards or another pass rusher then make a significant investment at DB.

No doubt that we could use a little more depth at DE. Wootton looked like a "comer" towards the end of last year but I'm still suffering from the "Mark Anderson" syndrome. A few flashes of talent isn't enough for me to annoint him as the next Richard Dent just yet.

Considering that we actually DIDN'T draft a DE this year I can't help but think they'll be looking for another player for the rotation somewhere. If Melton plays the 3t DT from now on that takes him out of the mix and there doesn't seem to be anyone else on the roster ready to step up. If he came cheap enough Edwards could bring some help alternating with Izzy to keep both fresh.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

edwards will not come cheap, IMO - way too mnay teams need DE pressure and will bid up his services in weak DE class

I suspected as much given the lack of numbers at virtually every postion in FA if the 6 year rule is used. You really can't prioritze a DE over an OG and a WR but if there just isn't any value available at those spots and there's $$$ to spend another pass rusher wouldn't be a waste. In this defense we can never have too many.

true he wont come cheap I was just saying where I would rather put my cap dollars at. Izzy isnt a spring chicken and can always try to improve over him. Wooten needs his time to develop. And we dont know which year on Peppers contract is the "cut year". If we added more bodies to kill the qb I would be more content with having a Jennings or Bowman out there covering guys.

Izzy I think is coming on the end of his contract is why I think they are considering the move. I can also see TB and Indy looking at him. I just would rather keep my cap dollars in good DEs then DBs. Without the pressure on the qb how good is the best Db going to be for us. Plus looking forward not much will be available at DE when we do need to replace Izzy. This roster needs to get to the point that we are operating ahead of schedule rather then picking up players based on desperation sort of like how our oline has been

True, he's signed through 2011 but I'm certain they'll offer him an extension after last years performance unless he's injured or falls way back this year. I'm not at all opposed to going after a guy like Edwards, and I do agree that the $$$ is better spent on pass rushers than pass defenders, but if it came down to keeping Izzy as opposed to signing Edwards I'll take Izzy.

Izzy has a great attitude, he's a team player and a team leader and even at his age he doesn't have a lot of miles on him. To me theres no reason that he couldn't keep performing like he has for another 4-5 years and there will be plenty of time to look for other DE's between now and then. When we do we'll need to find one for Peppers too. Both may hit the wall about the same time.

Rather see the $$ at OG or WR than DE... agree rather see DE than CB though... Just think OG and WR will get the attention of the $$ when we finally get F/A
