All conjecture now anyway- as you said let's see how wright/conte do in camp/preseason/seaosn before making any comclusions, sure do not need to decide now, or even oct/nov.. IMO the situation will play itself out over the 2011 season

And two, there is a good chance that with Danieal Manning possibly looking for a bigger pay day than what the Bears might be willing to sign him to, one of those two players (Wright or Conte) will most likely start at SS for us. Chris Harris might not be as fast as he once was, but then again, the name of the game in any sport, including football, is to make adjustments to better accommodate your skills any given juncture. Right now, Derek Jeter is having to do that very thing in baseball, since his bat speed has apparently slowed down compared to previous years.

Yeah the D. Manning situation needs to b ironed out also- If we get a CBA, do see Manning going elsehwhere, esp to a team needing ST help- and overpaying what the bears offered, because of his Kick off Play-

For his leadership skills and experience yes but for overall athletcism and play no. I think you may get your wish though because I think Manning will be history once FA season opens. He's too good an all around player and return man not to have someone willing to court him with a bigger better deal. We'll see what happens.

Are you saying that Manning is a better safety than Harris? I can see him being a better all-around player if you look at him from the perspective that he is both a kick returner AND a safety and plays both at a high level.

I would take a Harris/Wright backfield over a Harris/Manning backfield. Conte isn't gonna start this year, if we're lucky...

The Harris/Manning S positioning for the Bears worked out beautifully. Harris was a 2nd Team All-Pro and had one of his finest seasons. In Manning's case, he didn't allow a single touchdown.

Right now, Wright is an unproven commodity, while Conte hasn't even tasted the field yet. I think throwing them both into the fire right off could be disastrous.

What I meant was that Chris Harris gets by on his experience and instincts. His overall athleticism and coverage skills are not as good as Mannings. He also isn't a top kick off returner either. Manning finally came into his own last season and may get better whereas I think Harris has hit his peak.

Look, I'd purely love to have both of them and whether or not we keep Harris around depends on two things. Does Manning re-sign with the Bears and do both Wright and Conte prove to be starters at Safety? If Manning re-signs and the young'uns step up Harris is probably the odd man out. If Manning goes (which is likely) or one of the young guys fail or is injured then I think Harris will stick. JMO

Oh, okay. Sorry to offend you. I think that either a Harris/Manning or a Harris/Wright S tandem would work fine. I just hate like hell to see Chris Harris leave if he winds up getting the axe because he's been so good for us even when he was with us back in the middle 2000s.
