I would still rather have Santonio Holmes in place of Braylon Edwards simply because of his clutch play. As Pete Rose once said, he would "walk through hell in a gasoline suit just to play football." He made a clutch play while he was injured last season, too.

no sure about 'clutch'.. ironically holmes was in the top 10 WORST WR with over 11% drops in 2010, that isn't very clutch

    43. Santonio 11.59%

He's yet to justify the spot he was chosen at but if he's matured and can run precise enough routes with Cutler throwing to him he may be ok. Hell, if we can get 900-1000 yards and a half dozen scores from him he'd be worth a shot.
prolem is edwards "thinks" he's a Number 1 WR, and wants #1 money, and NOTHING in that career equals that, knox has been as productive as edwards so far( w/o the drops) and no one thinks he's a #1. Agree to the 'decent", but he wants alo more than "decent money".. and why so skeptical about him.. now if could get him for $10-12 mill for 3 years, be fine, but doubt that ever happens

Jets wide receiver Braylon Edwards wants set-for-life money in the form of a long-term deal, but he’ll have to earn it if general manager Mike Tannenbaum has any say.

Of course he'd have to be an affordable alternative with his deal based on past productivity. He's not a "game changer" or someone you have to gameplan around and anyone would be foolish to pay him like one. If he really feels he deserves that he may have to play for another year or two and a very high level before he gets that kind of deal. If he's looking for a $30-$40 mil 4 years deal he's about twice the cost of what I'd be willing to pay. I was thinking more like $15-$20 mil over 4 years at best.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

i agree he doesn't derserve or should think he's worth $30-40 mill, but then again never thought berrian would get $40 mill from vikes for even less production : ) and you know that will be what his agent will use as the "benchmark" : )... just saying edwards has always thought more of himself and his worth( he held out his rookie year for 22 days, held out in 2008 minicamps looking for a new deal, etc)

He fits the category of a primary need but he's not ever gonna be my first choice. If he expects to get a $40 mil deal and if Floyd and Rice aren't available then it makes a guy like Burress look more attractive as far as bringing him in for a look and at a vet minimum kind of deal for a year or two. Put in some incentives to seal the deal if needed.

I didn't say that he didn't have the case of the dropsies at times. I'm saying that he made several key plays that won games for the Jets last season.
