Just to be clear this is a HYPOTHETICAL SITUATION. Would variables have to change? Yes. Is it likely to happen? No. Is there some point of viability to it? POSSIBLY. Have crazier things happened? Sure. Is it nice to posit CONJECTURE in a dull lock out? I'd like to think so.

Basically, all we have to do right now is wank off and grin and bear it. I'd still like to make a trade to get Logan Mankins, so I'm going to hold out hope that we can do this.

Well since Holt has made a shitload of money but still loves to be around the game...
and would like to give on the field playing one last try...

We dont know if Martz is going to be gone...
we dont know Tice would take over at OC if he did.
We do know the here and now...Martz...Tice.
Holt as an asst.coach after he gets his bell rung playing again...
could be good for WR's under the Martz system.
If he comes cheap. 
He already made his money...now its love of the game.

I'd definitely spend the cash on Mankins before I'd even think about Tory Holt. As great a WR as he once was and as good as he still is now Cutler won't have time to even find him if he's on his butt. We still need one more fix on that Oline and still don't know where to get it.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

If we can't fill our needs this season at OG, that I'd definitely pull the trigger on signing Tyson Clabo and put him in Webb's spot. That way, we would have very good players manning the corner parts of the line.
Otherwise, I agree with you, soul. We should forgo a draft pick and trade for Mankins.
