It's a shame that the HOF is so hung up on the length of play. Jimbo Covert was one of the finest LT's to ever play the game and certainly the best the Bears ever had in any year of my recollection. If nothing else he deserves it on the caliber of his play before injuries shortened his career just like Sayers.
I laughed my ass of at his answer about Fantuz. Maybe he can make the reserve team as the guy who runs out and picks up the kicking tee after the kick off, LOL.
Matt Forte is a must sign guy. For our purposes you don't find a better all around back in the league. Pair him with a good power back and we have a running game like we used to have.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
Honey Badger Don't Care. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit.
When the FOUR HEAD COACHES of the CHICAGO BEARS look around the...
Proffessianalll Football League...
and come up with names like Fantuz...Peppers...Conte...Cutler...Webb...Johnson ,
that 12 year old kid down at the end of the block that tackles the mailman everyday...
there has to be a logic here that is beyond the rest of us.
A logic that led to 11-5...and LOSING when it counted most.
Therin hopefully lies the logic...DONT DO THAT AGAIN!!
It's bad for team morale.

There are four head coaches on this team as you said (Lovie Smith, Mike Martz, Rod Marinelli, and Mike Tice), so basically we're seeing too many chiefs and not enough Indians. As accomplished as these guys have been, what proved to be our downfall last season was bad coaching on the part of Lovie and his cast of characters, particularly Mike Martz. In both Week 17 and the NFC Championship Game losses to the Packers, Martz went away from the run far too early. I would have run a draw play up the middle on the play Blow Job Raji picked off for a touchdown just to not put Hanie in the position where he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders.
teams 10-12 WR's for camp.. why not sign him?...he's a long shot at best, but need camp bodies for practice with the 2nd and 3rd string Qb's... a decade ago people never cared or even taked about the 80+ people at camp.. but the internet has given access an talking about to even the 30+ scrub's that will be cut in camp ach year.. and some get hyped when shouldn't
??
webb(7th round) and conte)3rd round) draft picks of bears, johnson( 5th round) draft pick of cards.. fanutz never played college ball in the USA or was drafted.. he is a completely different deal than the players you mentioned- he's camp fodder, that all teams need and hope 1 in 100 get lucky and can make a team, but no one is couting on it... which is very much different from a 3rd round pick
Why sign camp fodder when walkins come for almost nothing?
Thats the point...sombody somwhere saw Fanutz and signed him.
Just as sombody saw H.Johnson and signed him.
Just as sombody drafted Webb and Conte.
There must be somthing there or why waste the money?
Most of us figured Webb was camp fodder also...
now we are trying to see him plugged in on the O-Line as a starter somwhere.
Fantuz fits into that catagory that sombody saw somthing in him like H.Johnson.
They may both be busts... we wont know until we get there.
Meanwhile...SOMBODY signed them.
Now we'll have to find out why.![]()
a HUGE difference between a 3rd round pick a team pays a million+ for and "sees something".. then an undrafted player, that costs the tam nothing but 42 cent invitation to com to camp and dismiss in a few weeks is the point jackie- no one wasted a dime on fanutz. And while a 7th round pick close to camp fodder many times, even then the team has invested at least $20,000 in a signing bonus, publicity at draft and after, over the 30+ UDFA's( like fanutz) all 32 teams bring in each camp and dismiss a few weeks later- could and have UDFA"s actually made teams? sure!.. but its a compeltely different aspect and "ties to team" over a draft pick..
OK.
