Odd communication rules for Jairus Byrd and dad

Gill Byrd is the defensive backs coach for the Chicago Bears and father of Bills safety Jairus Byrd. The rules of the lockout prevent coaches from speaking to players. But preventing a father from speaking to his son is absurd (right?), so the NFL came up with an only slightly absurd solution: logging the conversation.
"(My dad) has to report it and write down what we talked about and whatever," Jairus Byrd told ESPN.com’s Tim Graham. "I don't have to jot anything down, though. To me, I just talk to him like I always have. That's his problem."
Good thing Jairus is well past the age of receiving the birds and bees talk. Can you imagine having to give your employer a log of that discussion?

That IS absurd. They should not be able to legislate that whatsoever. Parent's aside what if your friends with a player and they stop by for a bbq or you see them at a restaurant?
If you really want to speak to someone you'll find the medium to do it regardless of the nfl's crappy "rules".
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

2 things:
Any team that isn't smart enough to give info from coach to player isn't playing the system right. (anybody think Belicheck isn't getting stuff out there?)
Also, his son plays for a DIFFERENT team! What's he gonna tell him? they run different 4-3 systems anyway...

Its def. one of the most bizzare stories have seen from this lockout, that is for sure.

difference is that was a 'made up story" by ESPN to get viewer interest, this is soemthing really going on... which makes it more bizzare the NFL instituted a rule like this : )

It is bizzare. Why don't they just ask them to tape record their conversations?

I would say that might take a few resources away from them negotiating, but I doubt that's true at all.
