well, looks like the NFL are back to squeezing more money out of the fanbase. There is absolutely ZERO need for orange jerseys except for more jersey sales. If they want sales, use the throwbacks from last year instead. Throwbacks to 2010 throwbacks, if you will.

The throwbacks to the 1940s Bears teams were absolutely classic and classy looking. Leave it to the league or the Bears to use that to f*ck with a good thing.

yeah, they were. But i think these alternate jerseys crap has got to stop. Dark Top, White Top, Dark Pants, White Pants. Occasional Throwback. Thats all thats needed. But no, they need these stupid alternates to sell more jerseys, make more money. They realize that fans already own jerseys of their favorite players, and they keep them for awhile, so the only way to get them to buy MORE jerseys of their favorite players, is to make them wear other colored jerseys. Pure money grab.

While agree its "mostly a money grab".. maybe because I like History and Chicago bears traditions- also think there are "good" to the throwbacks, in that many kid's, do not know the history of their teams or league, and if a few ask and find out why they wore the different color's, and learn more about the team and NFL's history, that s a good thing. Also getting a real 1940's jersey costs $1,000's,and you would never want to wear it- and was Nice to Pick up a 1940's bronk and Luckman jersey to wear occasionally- it was always something wanted- So for at least one fan, not about a money grab, but getting Some nice historical reference jersies that didn't cost 2 arms and a leg.

Oh, I don't doubt that for a minute that it's a money grab. It's just like that whole thing with the former AFL teams celebrating the AFL's 50th Anniversary. It was totally unnecessary and uncalled for, but hell, they went and did it anyway, and all because the league knew that people would pay the money to get those jerseys.

It is good and that can be accomplished with the 40's throwbacks. The orange tops aren't much of a part of Bears history since they only wore them one year and I'll bet the fans of the 30's hated them as much then as I do now. Maybe the kids should be asking why the Bears haven't modernized their uni's like many other teams have. Now there's a real chance to talk about Bears tradition and the fact that the uni's have changed very little since the 50's because that is what the traditions of one of the leagues oldest continuing franchises is all about.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Dont get me wrong, im differentiating between throwbacks and alternates. I dont mind throwbacks, especially when they are as classy as the 40s we wore last season. Those are still a money grab, but they pay homage to teams of the past. No, my issue is with the straight up "alternate" jerseys that have no history and serve no purpose then to make them money. Such as the bears wearing Orange, its insulting...were not the Broncos.

actually the orange is the jersey from 1930's
1930s
The 1930s are a decade of radical change for the Bears uniform. By 1932, numbers are added to the front of the jersey. As early as 1933, the team uses an orange jersey with navy numerals, and black arm stripes, and wears it from time to time through the end of the decade. The jersey was so "loud" that stories are told about crowds in New York booing the jersey. In 1934, the team wears white helmets.
In 1936, the team unveils a uniform described years later by an NFL publication as "an early version of psychodelia" Bruising fullback Bronko Nagurski and his mates wear a dark helmet with three orange stripes from front to back, a white jersey with 14 navy and orange alternating stripes on the sleeves and shoulders. The socks look like something the Munchkins would wear in the Land of Oz, with alternating navy and orange stripes from the ankle to the knee. The look lasts just one year. [Back to top]
1940s
In this decade the Bears revolutionize professional football with the T-formation offense, but get back to basics with the uniform look. Except for some preseason games, the orange jersey is gone. For the first half of the decade, the team wears a black jersey with orange numerals, and adds striping on the pant leg much like today's look. The now-familiar three-stripe socks also debut.
By 1949, the team introduces what will become its distinctive uniform number font style for the next half-century, with classic "rounded" numerals in white on the navy jersey. [Back to top]

well, guess thats where that jersey shouldve stayed then.

ohh no doubt!! when even the official desription of the jersey talks about fan's "booing",, a good idea to not use them again.. then agan still better then the 1920's horror show they only thankfully used on butkus/sayers retirement night
1990s
In 1994, to celebrate the NFL's 75th season, the Bears wear 'throwbacks' uniforms for three games. The look is based on the team's uniform in 1925-26, with orange vertical stripes on navy jerseys, and tan pants.
In 1999, after Walter Payton dies, the team wears on the jersey a memorial patch with his uniform number -- 34 -- on a football background. [Back to top]
