All well and good but you have to admit that anytime you get a pro-bowl year(s) out of a 6' 185lb 5th round pick you did well in drafting him. He's not exactly your prototype modern era WR.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Yeah. I just think despite what he's good at, he's got too much to work on to be the player that we need atm. I'll gladly eat my words, tho, if he and Bennett turn out to be a deadly combo. and to be fair, Knox was my guy going into last season, Bennett is the guy this year. He's got less to work on than any other WR we have.

well as NO ONE said he was a probowl or elite.. not sure why you are making that comparsion.. all that as was said is KNOX BETTER( and by alot 1,450+ to 400+ yards) over Berrian his first 2 years... no one even compared him to other current bears wr's

If you read the copy I posted from the Official Site in the Earl Bennett thread you'll know exactly why that was the case last year. Martz acknowledges that and says they plan to increase his role this year. But both he and Drake say that despite his ability to catch virtually anything thrown his way he still has some work to do on his route running.
So it's not just Knox and Hester who need to tighten up that part of their game, Bennett does too. I think they'll all make some strides in that direction this year once they can get back on the field and work on it.

Musta missed that. I never personally saw Bennett run as bad of routes as knox or hester has (or maybe i'm forgetting), but he seems to have more of an "it" factor in relation to picking things up quicker. I really think he's gonna be our possession receiver, don't know if he'll make the pro bowl soon, either, but he seems to be the guy Cutler started to look towards for those 3rd down receptions towards the end of the year; i think that says a lot.

In all fairness, i don't know why you're being so defensive about it. It's just the best comparison to make of him to recent Bears WR's with similar skill sets. I'm not saying anyone is saying he's gonna be a Steve Smith or anything, I'm just saying he's getting a little too much hype, but i can see how he'll eventually make a lasting impact.

It is amazing who the starting qb is when you compare two players.
Benard Berrians first years starting qbs. Chad Hutchenson, Craig Krenzel and the mighty Jonathan Quinn. (Craig was a rookie)
Bernard Berrians second year starting qb. Kyle Orton for 14 1/2 games, Rex for 1-1/2 games (Kyle was a rookie)
Johnny Knox starting qb for his first two years is Jay Cutler.
* Lets not forget that we had Moose droppings as Ortons go to WR because we paid a shit load of money for this guy.

It generally takes 2-3 years to fully develop a wide receiver in this league. DB said it himself in another thread when he brought up the names of T.O., Chad Ochocinco, etc. Rarely will you find a WR who meshes right away, as was the case with Jerry Rice.

Maybe with normal teams it takes 2-3 years but with the bears it rarely ever happens in a life time.

yep and that's the point of knox, he's already "ahead of the curve", and his first 2 years, despite the mistakes that almost ALL WR's have learning the NFL, has still been very productive- and way ahead of the development of a guy like berrian... Doesn't mean guaranteed to keep increasing, but a very good sign it will, based on the NFL history of WR's. And as those stats show already( forget just first 2 year wr's, he's among the better deep ball WR's in the league)
