We don't need a stable of quarterbacks that will see most of them get cut or put on waivers! I have said this before in other threads, but Lovie needs to cut Martz loose because the offense actually did worse last season than it did in 2009, and his "ego" did not do a damn thing to help the team other than nearly burying it for good before the midway point of the season.
It may have been worse statistically but we did put points on the board with it and that offense got us to the NFC Championship Game. Martz's deal runs through 2011 but they are trying to extend him so Lovie must have some belief in what he can do with his group. He runs a complex system and last year was the first year his guys played it. I'll be happy to wait out what he can do with them this year before I pass a final judgement. For Cutler's sake you really don't want to put him through another change in OC's. He's had very little stability with that his entire career.

Not the entire staff, just the OC. Martz didn't do a very good job of play calling in two games against the Pack and that should be obvious to all. He was also stubbornly insistent on ignoring the running game and forcing Cutler into a lot of 7 step drops in the passing game behind a very poor Oline early in the season. Finally Lovie and Tice convinced him that he needed to go a different route. He did but only grudgingly it would seem. Much like any other addict every time he got the least bit nervous and the running game wasn't producing early on he slipped back into his passing addiction because he does have a passing addiction.
That was just one of the reasons that I thought he was a poor choice as an OC for the Bears. How do you fit a pass happy OC into Lovies "we get of the bus running" way of approaching his offense. Overall I think that Martz and Cutler have created a more exciting offense but he's still far short of producing a hard running balanced attack to go with his downfield passing inclinations.

Yes, I was talking about the Chicago Bears. They won the division title despite a terrible offense the first half of the season. Mike Martz probably cost us three wins during the course of the regular season, as well as the NFC Championship Game. You forget, this ISN'T the Detroit Lions site we're on, and that we expect our team as of about 2005 to compete for division titles and chances to get into the Super Bowl. As a fan, I do not settle for second best; I am always questioning what is the status quo and what can be done better to assist in making my team(s) the best they can be. I understand that some people drink Kool-Aid and will accept any amount of garbage their team throws out on the field, but not me. I am not a Chicago Cubs fan, nor will I ever be. This is the New York Yankees side to me that is coming out - we are NEVER satisfied about what is on the field, and thus are always looking to improve the product in order to win championships. Never settle for less than the best. Those are the words of the day.
