In terms of coaching, Ditka had a great GM and a brilliant defensive coordinator to run the show in his early years as Bears' head coach. He won a Super Bowl, yes, but what happened to his teams as he went deeper into his run as head coach? The offenses flopped! He couldn't decide on a quarterback to lead the team in the playoffs, usually going with an injured-Jim McMahon (who was washed up pretty much after 1985), and that always proved to be disastrous. Never did this strategy prove truer than in 1988, when the Bears got wasted by the same San Francisco 49ers team that they had beaten earlier in the year. Mike Tomczak was clearly at the time the best quarterback, as he had led them to the win over the Eagles the previous week. To me, such indecisive makes for a tactically mediocre coach. Ditka just didn't trust his stuff, and when you don't trust your stuff, bad things tend to happen to you.

I remember watching Gale Sayers play and for that time he was one of the best RB's of all time. But then again I'm old school like that...

Tired of being a tackling dummy......

lol, do you realize that that message just dated you? lol. j/k. I'm so young that I don't even remember much about the Bears of the 1980s. About all I do remember are Cubs games coming on WGN and interrupting episodes of Transformers and G.I.Joe. Man, that would piss me off!

Well that's no shock considering that you were all of what, three years old? But there's a lot of video that you can use to catch up.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I was four years old. The only things I remember from that time are Care Bears, Cabbage Patch Dolls, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Ghostbusters, and vaguely some about Chicago Cubs baseball, though Dad quickly lured me away from baseball's dark side :)

Fine but you didn't need to become a damn Yankees fan there was another team in town at the time too ya' know.

Then I'd have to have to put up with that insufferable SOB Ken "The Hawk" Harrelson as my broadcaster instead of having Mel Allen and Phil Rizzuto.
