Lots to comment on here so I'll start with Pompei's article.
If the players and owners compromise of a 5 yr FA then there will be quite a few UFA OG's out there. If that's the case the Bears would be foolish not to sign one. Even if CWill surprises and ties down LG we still need to replace Garza this year or next and I don't believe we have anybody on the roster right now who could do that. Signing a FA OG should be a huge priority for them even above a big WR or CB.
I think he's accurate in his feelings about Burress eve being a Bears and the need fot Chester Taylor to prove that last year was a fluke and that he still deserves a spot on the roster. I think he's gonna get big time competition from both Unga and Bell though. I don't think Bell has any practice squad eligibility left so we either have to keep him or cut him and if we put Unga on the practice squad he'd be gone in a NY minute. Personally I don't want to lose either of those guys in favor of keeping Taylor at his age. I still think he was a bad pick up but I do admit I didn't feel that way at the time we signed him.
I think he straddles the fence too much when he talks about Paea. There's no question in my mind that he has the quickness to be a 3t DT. The guy flat out explodes out of his stance and that combined with his strength will give opposing OG's fits trying to keep hin from shooting the gap. If he shows any weakness for the position at all it may be that he lacks the outright speed to pursue or chase down QB's or RB's. I think his strength allows him to play NT too but it's not ever gonna be what he's best at.
Now from the ESPN article;
I'm glad to hear they plan to give Unga every possible chance to become that short yardage back we so badly need. I'll put aside the "very excited" part though. Lovie says that so often about so many players that it loses it's significance. I'm not dinging him for it though. What else would he say? "The guy's slow he fumbles way too much and his hands must be made of concrete". "About all he's any good at is cleaning the mud from his cleats".
I think they're spot on about the LB situation too. I expect Roach to return as well as Iwuh. Both have shown the ability to start if need be but they're great backups. I also hope we bring Pisa back for another year or two. He's still our best SLB when he's not injured. Thomas needs to make his mark on ST's before he gets a shot in the LB group.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Good call on "at worst" we also need to replace garza next year,so we will be going OG in F/a.. but i'm glad the bears are downplaying it, and not announcing it, to drive up any OG in a bidding war that alwats seems to happen if teams dumb enough to tell reporters the truth.. and also that we may use the bigger Rb for short yardage( yeah what a novel concept..lol)

LG is our biggest need.
Tice needs to do a better job polishing that turd into a better linemen but I agree, he is a bust.

Until I've seen him play an entire year at one position, not the annual musical positions he's been forced into, I won't call him a bust but if he doesn't step up and play his position well this year then I'd have to agree. Lineman can take a while to develop and what we need to see from him is that he has developed. Tice will give him every chance to show that he can play before he gives up on him.

Yeah but unfortunately he was which is why Tice will give him every opportunity to succeed mo.

Wisniewski was going to be a bit of a stretch. But John Moffitt along with former teammate Gabe Carimi...that could have been a lethal tour de force.

Agreed, you have to see if he can develop.. al what happened with gallery with raiders.. and even if not a first rounder, IMo he would still be here as depth, really doubt would have been cut
