If This Is True, Kiss The 2011 Season Goodbye
Will the Bears try for guard Logan Mankins, or do you see any other free agent offensive linemen they may target? John, Naperville
The Patriots have the franchise tag on Mankins, which basically puts him off limits to the Bears and any other team. There are some other good possibilities in free agency on the offensive line, but
the vibe I'm getting from Halas Hall is the Bears may not go for a starting offensive lineman in free agency. I think they want to see what the players they already have can do, given another year working with Mike Tice.

Personally I think Pompei's "vibe" is wrong. The Bears can't be that stupid. Cutler won't survive another season with Chris Williams as a guard.
Rumour is they would have drafted John Moffitt in round 3 had he fell to them. That tells me they are looking for an upgrade at the guard position.

here's a couple could be's.
1. Feeling confident enough in our new tackle (Carimi) the continued improvement of Webb, and what we have to target a big #1 reciever that everyone's been clammoring for.
2. they don't see anyone in FA that will be
A. Available.
B. Interested.
C. Able to come in and learn the playbook and perform better than what we got
3. it's just smoke and mirrors to keep other teams in the dark.
I personally think the bears have shown us they have every intention of improving in any way we can. if we don't get a linemen, you can bet we'll be going after a reciever.

I would think at the most we need a OG, WR, C, and possibly another CB. At the bare minimum getting a OG and WR should be a no-brainer.

Exactly!!!! Does Pompei think the Bears take him into their confidence regarding every personnel decision they make? That vibe he's getting is probably just his cell phone set on just vibrate mode, LOL.
We've got the juice to bring in both a WR and an OG but if they don't agree to a shorter FA than 6 yrs the available talent reduces dramatically so they not knowing what's gonna happen they couch their statements by saying the may be content to sit tight.
Good post Grizz.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Going for an OL just for the sake of going for an OL isnt going to help...thats how we ended up with Pace and Schaeffer and crap like that. They should only pursue an OL if they are going to actually HELP our OL, not just to appease us who demand action. Carimi was an excellent draft choice, so they have shown they are focusing on the issue, and besides...they cant do ANYTHING yet until this lockout is over.

Giving Lovie Smith an extension, keeping Jerry Angelo employed, Todd Collins = Very Stupid.
