BEST ALL TIME BEARS WR's.. Who ya got?
In the continuing Series, thought would go with the "O" and the wide reciver position, and like Many other positions, hard to just go by stats, esp in earlier bear stars when only playing a 12 game seaon, compared to a 16 game season. With that said below would be my top 5 Wide Receivers:
1. Harlon Hill- despite only a 12 game season still is 2nd overall in yards( 4,616), most 100+ yard games( 19) and most 1,000+ seasons.he caught 45 passes for 1,124 with 12 td's( in 12 games) and a 25 yard per catch avg his rookie year which is remarkable numbers, unfort a knee inury and alcoholism cut short a career that was on a hall of fame track at the time.
2. ken kavanaugh- Sid Luckman's "go to" Wide reciever in 1940's, that like many players of the 1940's lost a few years in his prime to WW2, but Still leads bears all time with 50 td's and holds the bears record with a 22.4 career avg per reception and most td's in a season (13 in 12 games)
3. Marty booker- only other WR in bears hitory with back to back 1,000+ season's with harlon hill, caught 100 and 97 balls in 2001-2002, not a spectacle player, but ver solid with great huge hands.
4.Johhny Morris-the bears all-time yard leader at 5,059, and gets overlooked becaue many of the 1960's teams were not very good, but a solid WR for many years for bears only the 2nd bear with a 200+ game( hill the other)
5A.Dick Gordon- Another very solid WR on the awful 1970's bears, and becuase played with such bad Qb's hard to really evaluate who good he could have been with a real QB.. 3rd all time in td's with 35
5B- Marcus robinson- Another tragic story, of a WR just hitting prime with a 1,400 yard "breakout" season and looking like could have a Superstar WR when blew his knee out completely in 1999 and never fully recovered from this injury. He is that "what could have been" WR.
Honorable mentions:
Willie Gault- the 1980's speedster, who didnt like contact, if h had been more willing to go across middle or get hit would move up
Curtis conway- more potential than production outiside of 1995, just below the top 5
Jeff graham- a very solid WR who we never should have let go
Bobby Engram- another solid WR that is the mistake filled botched years of the idiot son MMC reign of incompetence let go
Who are your top 5 and why?

harlon hill made 3 probolers and all pro's,, dick gordon 2.. think knox has a shot but needs eitehr some probowls at the WR position or a few 1,000+ seasons which is very possible.. right now i'd put him on the conway/gault track and level, but def can rise above that level, as this will be year #3 where many wr's breakout
-
and while fun to mock the lack of success at the WR position, knox's 96 catches, 1,487 yards and 10 td's after 2 years, better then all the below wr's after 2 years( which shows how good his career start is)
terrell owens- 95 catches 1,456 yards, 12 td's
ocho cinco- 97 catches, 1,495 yards, 6 td's
plexico burress- 88 catches, 1,281, 6 td's
wes welker- 96 catches, 1,121 yards, 1 td
reggie wayne- 76 catches, 1,061 yards, 4 td's
steve smith- 64 catches, 1,026 yards, 3 td's
roddie white- 59 catches, 952 yards, 4 td's
santana moss- 32 catches, 463 yards, 4 td's
just to name a few big name wr's now that started off at same level or worse

Isn't it sad that the Bears all time leader in receptions, and third highest receiving yard total isn't even a wide receiver?
Just goes to show you how pathetic our WR history is

personally i don't find the the world's greatest football player ever to be "pathetic", or that payton leads the team in receptions.. FWIW 493 catches, i'd wager would be close to near the top of alot teams.. its ok to not always knock the bears

I liked mckinnon the 80's but just IMo he is Step below the rest( and did most of his best work as a returner(.. never had even 750 yards in a season) and only twice even 500.. that is below even the honorabl mention list IMO jeff

I'm inclined to agree with db54, because, say Walter were in the 49ers system, he would've greatly reduced Jerry Rice's importance...
