Oh you're right. Now I remember why I was so pissed when I found that out years ago, LOL. My memory's failing, CRS is setting in.

I have to put Merrill Hoge in there. A Bear for only a season, he was a premier FB during his career with the Steelers.

Amazing, the guy had to learn to read again after the CEI concussion.

Yeah, I thought this was focused on guys who played for Chicago...

Jim Brown played for The Bears?
DaBears54 had commented that Nagurski was the best FB all-time (post #1) and I corrected him. As we all know Jim Brown played for the Browns.

we need a seperate "ultraback" category for raymont..lol along with the special HOF for henry "i'm going to make the hall of fame" burris, but raymont was a RB, not FB ..lol.. but good cal mastellah, raymont does deserve mention in "top 10 names for self or nicknames" category we will have to do also..lol

and as said back, brown wasn't a FB, but a RB and never a lead blocker, so disagree he is a fullback, despite listed as such and still standby bronk as the #1 FB in nfl history : )

If I may ask, what year were you born and what year did you begin following the Bears?

For me, 1958 birth year and 1971 is the year I started following the Bears.

The reason I ranked Ronnie Bull over Harper or Muster is because he had better career number, 4,275 total yards from scimmage, slightly better than Harper.
1962 and began watching about 6 years later but my Dad and Grandpa were huge fans and Grandpa got me interested in the Bears history from his era. I was living in GB when I really began to follow them weekly and those were pretty crappy years. Harper was to Payton I think what Bull was to Sayers and since I saw more of Harper it just fell that way.

I've also watched a lot of archival footage over the years of those 50's and 60's players and that combined with what I learned from Dad and Gramps is what kept me a Bears fan.

Muster played more like a TE than a FB for my tastes-a bit like what Olsen does now. The only true "ultra" back was Walter period.

Muster never actually played TE though. He was always in the backfield. It was Robin Earl who came in as a TE and they tried converting him to FB.

Yes I was comparing stylistic attributes. Never saw a whole lot of Robin Earl.

Look like Tarzan, play like Jane. He was probably the best FB canidate we had at one time based on how he looked in uniform. To bad he couldn't play.
