there are way too many options to settle on someone on the wrong side of 30 like Plax.

Well I think we've long since said that either Malcom Floyd (if on a budget) or Sidney Rice (if not) would be at the top of the list if we're gonna target that bigger guy that Cutler has been asking for. The trouble is that I think Rice will be at the very top of a lot of teams lists once FA begins and I know the Bears probably won't get into a bidding war for him.
If they really want him they need to show up on his doorstep like they did with Peppers and convince him that playing with Cutler in a Mike Martz offense will be better for his career than any other place he could end up. I don't know. Part of me sees them pulling something unexpected like that off and part of me doesn't and thinks they're more likely to look at Floyd who's no youngster either.
One way or the other we need another vet WR on team.

the weird part is who are they asking about the offense Tice or Martz? That second half ofthe season seemed to me martz was in control. Add in the fact martz didnt get an extension with lovie........

For a WR? Gotta be Martz. I mean that's in his alleyway not Tice's. I wouldn't make an Oline move without Tice's ok but Martz has got to be the guy pulling the switch on a wideout.

That second half of the season, Mo, reminded me more of something that Tice would have orchestrated should he have had total control of the offense. We ran the ball too much for starters, and were averaging 111 rushing yards per game in the second half (it would have been even higher had we had more than 47 rushing yards in the Patriots game).
I'd say that the Bears will not go after Lance Moore simply because he's not a Cutler guy. Martz doesn't exactly run a West Coast style of offense attack, and thus we will not go after someone who is probably a slot guy or a Wes Welker-type. Martz wants to chuck the ball deep, and I have a feeling that we will go after a Sidney Rice before all is said and done...or at the very worst, Malcom Floyd.

I think Martz wins the "personnel war" against Cutler, but may throw him a bone. As far as selling one of the high shelf WR's on the system, that should be easier seeing how Cutler has been known to want a "go to" guy, and a true no. 1 coming to Chicago will be getting the ball thrown his direction enough to satisfy him. I could be wrong tho...

Also, the Bears are a team on the rise, and should only improve in all phases of the game this coming year if we can get the key players we need. Knowing Jerry Angelo, we will make a play into the free agent market since we did so in each of the past two seasons (even despite the fact that we drafted a player in the first round in Gabe Carimi, which the past two seasons we didn't draft a first rounder before of the trade for Cutler).

That should bode well if it's Rice we go after and that really wouldn't surprise me all that much. All JA's half hearted attempts at upgrades (OMG, Pace, Manu, Taylor, etc.) have gone south on him. It's when they pull off the big moves like Cutler and Peppers that we see it make a big difference in how the team performs.
Rice is on the verge of becoming a truly great WR and if all he has to depend on is the Vikes current QB situation a move to a team with a more established QB and an OC who loves to go vertical might be just the thing to boost his career. If I'm his agent I've got to be pointing that out to him if the Bears do decide to come calling. If so they need to do it big and fast just like they did with Pep. No fooling around. Make the first offer the best offer and don't leave until you get a signature or definite no.

Exactly. As I am fond of saying, we need to load the Brinks truck up to Rice's front doorstep and make him an offer he can't refuse. He will want to go where he will have a chance to play on a contender, and Chicago is just the place for him to go do that. He is healthy now, and I suspect that he has the ability to put up 1,300-1,600 receiving yards if he plays a full season similar to what other great receivers in the past have done.
Even if we don't get Rice, I think Floyd would be an excellent choice as well. I agree with soulman that he wouldn't be more than our second WR, but he would be very important because of his abilities to jump up and catch passes that most CB can't reach. This is true with Rice as well, but Floyd would be out specialist.
