Wait, Charles Martin is dead? Wow. I didn't know that.

But yeah. We should have won three straight Super Bowls from 1985-87. Unfortunately, we still have to lean on the championship season of 1985 as our last brush with glory. I blame Lovie Smith for playing Rex Grossman at all in the playoffs in 2006. He should have put in Brian Griese or Kyle Orton. Either of those last two could have won us the Super Bowl that year over the Colts simply because they would not have turned the ball over.

    Orton didn't play in 2006.

I still don't blame that superbowl on Rex entirely. It was a team effort, and the defense had alot to do with it.

I know he didn't play, but he was still on the roster. He was always a good game manager, or at least he was in 2008. He could have managed that offense through the playoffs without making the stupid mistakes that Grossman made. I don't know. Maybe I'm reading too much into the Grossman culpability because there was certainly some fault to be placed on the coaching staff for going away from the run too early.

Orton was nowhere near the QB in 2006 that he is today so I doubt it would have made much of a difference Dags. The turnovers were only one part of the problem. The failure of the defense to adjust to what Manning was doing and the playcalling which took us out of our running game played a huge part in it. You can't get picked off when you're running the ball.

I was just SO frustrated after that game. We had so many opportunities to take that game and crush the Colts, and we failed miserably. We didn't execute at all from about the second quarter onward, and the game planning was atrocious. On top of that, we caught a case of fumblitis in center-to-quarterback exchanges, and that really doomed us. That game, along with the 2010 NFC Championship Game against the Packers, were the two most frustrating games for me as a Bears fan ever.

I know what you mean. You win championships with a dominating defense and by playing nearly error free football. The next time we do that we may win another one.

Unfortunately, we have to play the Packers twice this season, one of which being on Christmas Day, at Green Bay, in front of a pride of lions. I like our chances at home, but not so much on the road. I think if we split the season series against the Pack like we did last season and sweep the rest of the games within our division, there is no reason why we can't repeat as NFC North Division Champions. But we must play more sound football than what we saw this past season, particularly in the first half of the year. We must run the ball, and only do two and three step drops rather than those God awful seven steppers that we did to begin the season. Even with the potential for having two positions on the offensive line revamped, our line is still not going to be totally sound until after the 2012 draft/free agency period when we have an opportunity to have completely gutted and retooled the line from where it was in 2010.
