PFW article but worth the read. This guy thinks we may pursue Moss and that JA will not spend the money for Rice given his injury last year. I'm not sure I buy into that. If we're convinced that Rice's injury isn't career threatening he's an almost perfect choice for a guy with the tools to become our #1 WR. We've been surprising lately with some of our moves so I wouldn't rule it out.

If we don't go that route more and more I think they may approach Santana Moss. We need another WR and he's an experienced vet who would give us an upgrade over what we have. I just question whether or not another sub 6' guy is the best route to follow.

Bears’ WR search not expected to end with splash

By Dan Parr, ProFootballWeekly.com6 hours, 17 minutes ago

Free agent WR Santana Moss led the Washington Redskins with 93 catches and 1,115 receiving yards last season.
    (US Presswire)

The Chicago Bears are expected to pursue a wide receiver in free agency and there is plenty of chatter about their options. Plaxico Burress(notes) called the Bears one of the top three teams he would like to sign with and Devin Hester(notes) has said he wants the team to pursue Santana Moss(notes) , a fellow University of Miami alumnus, when free agency begins.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the Bears have no interest in signing Burress, though, and there’s mutual interest between Moss and the Redskins, where Moss has spent the past six seasons.

Signing Sidney Rice(notes), one of the top free agents available, would be a move Bears fans would embrace, but sources are skeptical that GM Jerry Angelo will make that big of a splash, and Rice’s injury history – he missed 10 games last season for the rival Minnesota Vikings after undergoing hip surgery – could be a concern.

Don’t rule out Moss joining the Bears, but sources don’t expect that the team’s need for a good-sized No. 1 receiver will be addressed this offseason.

I'd rather have either Steve Smith that currently sits on the prospective market.

Not sure I copy this sox. Are you saying you'd rather have Steve Smith than any of these guys? Are you including Rice in that as well?

Than Santana Moss. We've already heard signals that we aren't interested in Rice because of our system, so I'm not even considering him as an option at this point. It would have to be one hell of a smoke screen for that to go down, and I'm not one for conspiracies. If' we are going for another small-shifty vet, give me Steve Smith (NYG) or Steve Smith (Car). Preferably the former.

Ah, the NYG Steve Smith is who you were referring to. I gotcha now. As for Steve Smith (Car.) vs Moss I think I'd still go with Moss. Maybe it's just the struggles the Panthers are going through but Smith's production seems to have slipped if I'm not mistaken whereas Moss' hasn't.

I guess if it's not Rice and Martz doesn't want a bigger guy like Floyd it makes very little difference to me anyway. Any one of those guys could contribute and provide an overall upgrade to our receiving core. and we do need some help.

Smith (Car) hasn't had a QB worth his weight in shit the past two seasons. All the Panthers could do on offense is run the ball, but he's shown that he's still got it when he gets the rock.

That's sort of like the Terrell Owens situation up in Buffalo when he had his worst season. He didn't have a quarterback outside of J.P. Losman and Ryan Kirkpatrick around to throw the ball to him, and neither one are exactly what I would call world beaters. Still, I don't want Steve Smith on the team because I understand he did something disrespectful to the Bears back in the 2004 NFC Divisional Playoff after he scored a touchdown.
