Exactly, I'm not trying to bash him although I admit that although my humor might sometimes be mistaken for sarcasm, it's not intentional. I found an article a few days ago on another site about Martz and our prospects for this year with him as our OC. I hesitated to repost it because it was just a layman's thoughts but now I think that he put some pretty good thoughts togther despite that. So I have posted in it's own thread. In fact there are a whole hell of a lot of times that I think we write better stuff here than what I read on most of the web sites.
facts are always there soul. The Rams offense was stacked when Martz was the man there. In Detroit they had some of the best young skill position players. In San Fran one of the best olines and running backs in the game. In Chicago he had bad oline and some of the middle talent in the league for skill position players. I tried telling people Olsen wouldnt be shit in this system and noone wanted to listen to me on that point either. The proof was all there with how Vernon Davis regressed and then progressed to one of the best te in the league once Martz was fired

I think you saw step one to that last season when we started running more and the rumors were the control was given to Tice. Step two was Tice getting AHC title and an extension. And step three was Martz also asked for an extension and never got one. All signs point to Tice taking over as OC imo and with the talent we have and with the history of knowing what JA will invest in an offense we will be far off better this way

I'm not saying he should be fired if only because he's the first OC we've had in forever who at least knows how to develop QB's. However, I would be hesitant to extend his deal unless the offense shows a marked improvement this year. I'll give Martz some leeway because of the line he had to work with last year but if that continues to be a problem then he has to make due with what he has to plan around it. You know, "when it rains lemons..etc., etc., etc.
The Bears made him a offer which he declined so there is that possibility that if things don't improve that he won't be back. I think the reason he wasn't offered a raise was due to the overall performance of the offense last year and I think Martz was not willing to accept that until he had an opportunity to improve on it. Much like a player in his option year he has the $$$ motivation to get the job done.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

True that bolded part. Asking a guy that wants to throw the ball 70% of the time to come to Chicago w/average at best wr's, and no real intrest in O skill positions from the GM is asking for failure; proof was in the pudding, RT's never ranked as poorly as Martz's, and that was saved by the fact that they forced him to run the ball more. If he had been given free reign the whole season, there is a good chance none of the coaches are left; and we are looking at Haine as our future b/c Cutler would have been kilt before the end of the season.
Just got my first Fant Football mag; and it showed a HUGE drop off in Olsens production; and that is not to mention the loss of production of benching Clark for a turnstyle TE blocker. Our best skill player was told to kick mud while the likes of Hester/Bennett/Knox(only Knox has real potential to pass Olsen in talent) were given more looks. Anyone that thought the Martz would change his stripes b/c of the talent he had was dead wrong, he didn't want to run the ball until he was forced too; and he didn't use his TE.
We'll see if they can keep him reigned in all year if so; and the run/pass attack is close to even we should be fine; but if they give him "x" games to work his plan, we could be screwed.

Mo, Martz was offered an extension but turned it down since it didn't include a raise after Tice was given one. Once again Martz over rates himself by expecting to be bumped salarywise without showing the expected offensive improvement. He gets a pass for one year due to the line and the complexity of his systems but without significant improvement this year I question whether they'll keep him even at the same pay. I never doubted his abilities but I've always contended that he wasn't the right guy for the Bears.
