According to ESPN's John Clayton, the 2011 cap will be set at $120 million, with over $20 million more per team allotted for ancillary benefits, which means that every NFL team will have to spend at least $108 million in pure player costs (not deferred payments and filmy rarely-to-be-earned incentives) this season.
This should put the Bears an estimated 37 million million under the cap and 25 million under the floor.

Thanks for the cap update Windy. Nice to see the hard cap figure around $120 mil without the benefits included. Earlier this spring Clayton was talking about $125-$130 mil including the bene's. Compared to our division rivals the Bears are in a good spot cap wise. GB will be under once they clear out some dead weight but not in as good a position to add new FA's as we are. Once we account for our own guys we should have ample $$$ for a splash that should cover our needs. I want to see them bring in one of the young stud OG's who should be available and I'd also like to see them go after Rice but with all of the talk about not needing a bigger WR I wonder if that's in the plans.
Whatever they decide once again we're in good shape to take advantage of things monetarily but this compressed FA period will play havoc on getting all or our rookies signed, our rookie UDFA's, Olin and AA, etc. and the new guys we want to go after. You gotta think that we have an advantage having had some experience with this before and I'd think we have a pretty good plan A and plan B all ready to go the minute the gate opens.

I'd try to keep Graham and send Bullocks packing if I could. I also think we'll need to go higher for AA. He's a very underrated NT and there are teams that would love to have him. You may also be able to get both Pisa and Roach for a little less. Pisa almost definitely would sign for around $1 mil like he did last year. I'd spend what you suggest for Yanda or Dahl or Blalock or Joseph but I wouldn't give that kind of money to Edwards when you could probably reel in Rice for the same or Floyd for less.Quote:
