The Chicago Bears are the 14th most valuable franchise in sports, according to Forbes Magazine's annual list.

The Bears, valued at $1.07 billion, were the ninth richest NFL franchise on the list.



In fact, all 32 NFL teams made the list, which likely resulted in some head-scratching from players locked out in a labor impasse by owners who are fighting for a bigger cut of the league's $9 billion in revenue.

The Top 10 looks like this: Manchester United ($1.86 billion), Dallas Cowboys ($1.81 billion), New York Yankees ($1.7 billion), Washington Redskins ($1.55 billion), Real Madrid ($1.45 billion), New England Patriots ($1.37 billion), Arsenal ($1.9 billion), New York Giants ($1.18 billion), Houston Texans ($1.7 billion) and the New York Jets ($1.14 billion).

The Cubs ($773 million) are ranked No. 42.

Only two NBA franchises made the list: The New York Knicks at No. 47, worth $655 million and the Los Angeles Lakers at No. 48, worth $643 million.

This would tend to tell us that NFL Franchises are still the most profitable in all of sports and that their values continue to grow substantially despite owner protests to the contrary. As the 14th most valuable franchise in all of sports I think Bears management should take a bow. I'm certain they weren't rated that high 10 years ago. That being the case it's not likely the current management team is going anywhere soon.

I think that's a misprint 4th. They're listed in descending order so I think it should be $1.17 billion and Arsenal should be $1.19 billion.

I think it's more based on who's not in charge any longer and that would be :asshat3:Mikey.
As soon as Mom fired him as CEO and put Ted Phillips in charge the team started to run like an NFL team should and the value has been going up ever since. I think last years Forbes evaluation was around $960 mil so the value increased by $47 mi over the last year or about a 5% increase. I'd take that in this era of economic uncertainty.

I'm shocked that the Manchester United was rated that highly, and frankly, the Dallas Cowboys too. I've seen other polls where the New York Yankees are the most valuable franchise. I guess it depends on the year.

Not much separates those top three so they may very well swap places in any given year. They're all flagship franchises within their respective sports.
