I actually said this after the first year, and it was a lot more laughable then... but I'm sticking to it.
AP is a great RB, no question about that, but for our purposes I do prefer Forte and/or guys like him. The former Bear he reminds me most of is Neal Anderson and Neal had a great career with the Bears. Had he not followed Walter he'd be far more well thought of.
Neal was a slashing runner much like Forte and just like Forte he was a very good receiver coming out of the backfield. They both can block and in fact Anderson blocked well enough that he played FB to Walter's HB for a year. We would be absolutely crazy not to agressively pusue and extension for Matt Forte before the end of this year. I think the guy deserves a top 10 contract and opinions like this are gonna help to get it.

Or sticking with the Baseball analogy: Forte is more like Derek Jeter, and AP is like Barry Bonds. (one is an all-around player, the other is good for one thing only)

I predict that Matt Forte will rush for close to 1,500 yards this season if his work load is divided out like it was last year.

Actually I hope he doesn't get enough carries to get that kind of yardage. Given the fact that we also throw to him often he could use some rest. I'm hoping that Harvey Unga can step up and be the power back that we were lacking last year but just in case I'd still go after the Packers FB/RB John Kuhn. Tough short yardage runner who can catch and block. Unga really isn't a blocking back and I want Manu gone and Olsen not having to play out of position this year.
There's also some talent back there in Kalhil Bell and I think we'll also sign an UDFA or two and cut Garrett Wolfe.

I always did think that Garrett Wolfe was a waste of space on that team. I think the main reason the Bears signed him was because he was a product of nearby Northern Illinois University, and they wanted the fan appeal. That's just me. I thought it was awfully interesting that they signed him, though.

I don't know why they drafted him but I do know that he was horribly misused the entire time he as here. When you use a 3rd round pick on a change of pace type back like Wolfe you really should have a select purpose and set plays for him in your offense and Turner never did. I think he may have become a productive player if we'd done the right thing with him besides just ST's. Well, he'll get his chance to prove himself at RB or fail somewhere else now.

Wow...someone told me this thread existed in a Bears forum and I had to see it to believe it. Adrian Peterson is the best RB in football. Hands down. Forte is not even in the top 5...and you could argue there are 10 RB's in the NFL better than Forte. Forte may be great in the Bears system but Peterson would make it better. Actually with Peterson on the Bears I wouldn't see you guys losing a game.
I actually saw Peterson beat the Bears by himself one game...has Forte ever done that?
You can talk all the numbers you want...all the system fits you want...but the fact remains should their be a trade tommorow between Forte and Peterson this board would be ecstatic.
If you want, and I play with numbers enough, I could argue that Percy Harvin is just a good return guy and player as Hester. But that would be a lie...just like the title of this thread.

I just posted the article dude I didn't write it. If you read it you'll see that Joyner isn't saying that Forte is a better back he's simply saying that he's far more comparable than most would think. Once again read the article and you'll see that Forte is in the top 5 backs in the NFL in total yardage over the past 3 years just 600 yards behind AP and he's only .2 of a yard behind him in yards per touch (rushes + receptions). And that's with Forte having played injured all of 2009 which significantly reduced his production that year.
There's no question I'd give the edge to AP as a pure RB but Forte is a better pass receiver and blocker than AP which are as important in the Bears offense as AP's rushing is to the Vikes. Bears running backs are expected to do far more than just be great rushers and Forte is certainly that. So when you say that we'd be ecstatic about a trade that brought AP here for Forte I think you under estimate Forte's value to this team.
You guys can keep AP, he's a great back, and I'll keep our guy who puts up 1500+ yards per year in total offense without laying it on the ground as much and can pick up a blitz when he needs to. As it stands Forte is a more valuable RB in the Bears offense than AP would be right now regardless of the numbers.
Now you can argue about Percy Harvin if you want but I'll take Hester there too. And once again IF YOU CAN READ, the title of this thread is followed by a big old question mark which makes it an interogatory and not a statement of fact. The proposition that they are equals came from K.C. Joyner, not me and not Brad Biggs.
