Apparently They Have a Deal, Vote Today......

    July 25, 2011
Agreement in place; players will vote once document is done

By: Albert Breer, NFL Network | Last Updated: 7/25/2011 8:27 AM

WASHINGTON – The lockout could well be in its final hours.

Legal teams for NFL owners and players negotiated deep into Monday morning, wrapping up at 3 a.m. with an agreement on basic terms.

According to multiple sources involved, the deal is not 100 percent done yet, with the final document still incomplete. That’s important, because the language of a completed deal is what caused some of the hang-ups that occurred last week.

But the goal is for the NFLPA to be able to present the completed document to its 13-man executive committee between 11 a.m. to noon ET on Monday, with a vote to follow. The NFLPA has a conference call set up for its 32 player reps to vote after that. After that, the 10 plaintiffs in Brady et al v. the National Football League et al lawsuit would have to sign off, which is fully expected.

At this point, what remains is "a few small points” in the language, according to a source.
According to another source, the league has a plan in place for the coming days. The doors would open Tuesday, with clubs allowed to sign draftees and rookie free agents. Free agency would begin Friday at 6 p.m. ET, though clubs could begin to speak with free agents starting Tuesday. Ten teams would open camp Wednesday, another 10 Thursday, another 10 Friday, and the remaining two on Sunday

Well it looks like we may finally have something new to talk about. According to the lastest the player reps will vote on a new agreement sometime after noon EDT, 11:00 am CDT. The players 13 executive committee will be reviewing the document and it's language prior to that.

Assuming that the language is now acceptable, this seemed to be the problem last week, the league will begin operations on Tuesday and at that time will begin to sign their draftees, veteran UFA's and rookie UDFA's. Free Agency will not officially begin until 6:00 pm EDT on Friday however, teams may contact veteran free agents players and/or their representatives beginning on Tuesday. This should avoid the back door tampering which was bound to happen anyway.

So, my guess is that by Saturday morning we'll all have a pretty good idea of who we'll have going to training camp this year including both our own and others FA's. If it's a go later today then it's time for JA and his crew to hit the streets running.

According to ESPN/Fox radio Teams will be able to sign their own FA's/ including rookies, today once a memo is released, and all UFA's tomorrow.
Teams will be allowed to have 1/3 of their teams start showing up on weds, another on thurs, and the rest on Fri.

About time the f'n players stepped up and got this thing done. ;p

So Ric are you saying they're reporting doing away with the 3 day grace period for teams to re-sign their own FA's before the start of FA on Friday as the article indicated? The article also says that 1/3 rd (10) of the team will be allowed to open camp each day from Wed. though Fri. and the remaining two on Sunday.

You might be right about the teams vs the players for each team.....And espn just reported about 1hr ago that nothing will happen today; but yes it will be one day for your own FA's and then it's open season...again that's per espn.

Thanks Ric. Can't believe they're only gonna allow one day for signing your own before the gates open wide but I guess if they're gonna let other teams talk with them they may just as well let them make an offer and sign them. Eliminates the tampering problems. The Bears are better of than many other teams in this regard anyway. We've got the cap room to keep who we need and most want to stay anyway.

Here's the schedule of which teams start camp on which days this week and when their first preseason game is scheduled.

The Bears begin camp this Friday with their first game against Buffalo on August 13th.

With as little time as there's gonna be this will be a real "wham bam thank ya' mam" kind of FA. No time for courting these guys. They either put out on the first date or you go on to the next one, hahaha. You get 'em lined up over the next 3 days and start signing them on Friday.

It's gonna be like opening day of the after Christmas sale at your local department store. They'll be fighting and tearing the merchandise away from one another, LOL.
