Good looking CB prospect. The fact that he carried a draft grade as high as guys like Davon House and Ras-I Dowling and higher than Jalil Brown or Shareece Wright makes me wonder why the guy wasn't drafted. There's nothing in his scouting report that indicates any injury or character issues. Might be a real nice developmental guy for the PS or ST's.

RYAN JONES CB, Northwest Missouri St.

    Mar 16 Ryan Jones Q&A

Northwest Missouri State CB to work out at Mizzou Pro Day

A tall, well-built cornerback who possesses a strong-looking frame and good overall size. Showcases a willingness to attack the ball carrier in the run game and has some strength on contact. Doesn't take the most consistent of angles and too often shoots with his head down, but has the strength and willingness to mature in that area.

Is a gifted athlete for the position as well. Possesses good straight-line speed and initial burst when asked to click and close and exhibits good fluidity in the hips as well. Has the ability to cleanly open up when asked to turn and run and consistently is able to snap his head around and find the football. Exhibits good ball skills, locates the throw quickly, has good body control and knows how to create turnovers in the pass game. Has been very productive in that area ever since his freshman year. However, is a better athlete than corner at this stage. Is raw off the line in press, doesn't consistently do a great job moving his feet and getting his hands on defenders and too often gets overextended with his footwork and will open up the inside gate giving up separation. Also, looks more comfortable in his drop off coverage where he does a better job sitting into his stance and keeping his footwork compact and feet under him. But consistently gets upright when asked to redirect, which really takes away from his balance and ability to quickly close on the football. Exhibits good make-up speed, but needs to learn to transition lower at the next level.

Impression: A tall, strong, good-looking athlete with all the tools, just needs to learn to play the cornerback position. Plays in both man and zone at the college game and his range, ball skills, size and fluidity makes me think he can play in any scheme, just needs to learn to tighten up his footwork and learn to play lower. A nice developmental later- round cornerback prospect.

He's 5'11" and 195 lbs. That's not exactly undersized for a CB lb. That's about what Josh Moore goes and Tillman is just 6'1" and 198.

Tim Jennings (5' 8''), Josh Moore (5' 11'') and Ryan Jones (5' 11''). I can't wait to see them playing against big WRs. Since Tillman is getting older and older we need to add a big CB for the future.

5'11" or 6' is ok for a zone type CB. It's more important that they know how to play the zone and tackle than it is to match up one on one with the WR. Most of the good CB's in the league aren't much taller than that.

Guys, Darelle Revis is 5'11 1/2", and he's arguably the best CB in the league. At the VERY least 1b to Awesome-O's 1a.

Ryan is a a heck of a physical specimen, and probably our most athletically gifted CB even ahead of Bowman or Jennings. I've only seen the small clips of him that everyone else has, but he looks like a solid prospect.

Seems to me I read some stuff about Ryan Jones before the draft and based on what it said he was one of the better CB prospects but would probably slip some because of playing for a D-II school. Well even though his pre-draft ranking put him right in there with 3rd rounders like Davin House and Ras-I Dowling, Jones slipped all the way out of the draft completely and I don't think it was because of his size or lack of potential.

Here's a scouting report on him and I think we're fortunate that we got him. He should be able to play ST while learning to play CB at the NFL level. The guy sounds like a great prospect to me.

RYAN JONES CB, Northwest Missouri St.
