One can only hope. Something tells me if the Jets get close, SF loses out on that derby.

Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing. Why is there such a problem keeping the guy who has been the leader of your Oline for 13 years especially now when your rebuilding and bringing in new pieces. I really thought the first announcement we'd see out of Halas Hall was his and AA re-signings and not a punter and a TE.

He only counts 2-3 mil against the cap.

I'm guessing they're not on the same page when coming to number of years. I don't know thought we always took care of our own and thought this would be a no brainer as he trains the next great Bears center.

I agree. The only ONLY reason to be concerned about Kreutz is because we havent gotten his replacement yet (thought Beekman was picked up for that awhile ago). Yeah, Kreutz has been a great teammate and Bear, but he is definitely getting close to the end of his playing days.

Yeah that's a possibility but that also affects the $$$ as well. Maybe he wants a year more than they're offering although I can't see it going past two years and Olin should know that too. Two more years and he'll have put in 15 years and damn few OC's have ever done more than that. I guess we should know by tomorrow whether he's in or out.

And that's all the reason I need to wonder why they aren't getting it done. His physical skills may be on the decline but his knowledge of the game and the Bears blocking schemes still have a use and they need to be passed along to his replacement. He can't do that if he's playing for someone else.

F*ck Jerry Angelo. I don't know what to say. The Bears have to use, what, 93-95% of the cap toward signing players? What the hell is the deal here, and why must we suffer through the wrath of Jerry yet again when he was arguably good the past two offseasons?

I'm confused by these posts about Kreutz, I remember everyone calling for his head last season wishing he would be gone

Only if we actually had someone to replace him, which we dont.
That being said, he is the best OL we have

He was playing hurt all of last season too but he still had a decent year. When you're used to a guy who was a perennial pro-bowler and he begins to decline everyone calls for his head without thinking about what else he brings to the team and you sure as hell don't give consideration to his health or lack thereof.
The bottom line is that Jerry Angelo and his guys screwed this up when they failed to offer him an extensions before the lockout when it would probably have cost them less than he's asking for now. They're usually pretty good at not doing that but the way this FA period is going all I can say is they're fvcking up royal by the hour and there's at least a 50% chance they'll fvck this one up too and we end up with no OC or with Garza playing.
