One year contract, low salary. The team doesn't think too much of him either, but as a possible risk/reward type of signing. If he doesn't step up, this will be his last stop in the league. That folks, is motivation.
I don't mind the signing, especially if we are prepared to cut him.

wow... I'm busting out of my shorts with excitement.... you gotta remember they tried to put a square peg in a round hole with this guy and make him an OLB in a 3-4 scheme.... dude. playing down on a four man front again, with pep on the other side?...
I love this move.
I love the guys we have, but if this kid can come in and turn his game around like a lot of people think we could be in for a major showing in the defensive dept again.
top it off with williams only getting a one year deal to prove he can still put up a 1,000 yards.....
I slept on it, and I think things are getting scary in chicago... and in a good way.

But let's look at this a different way JD.
You just got hired for the job of your dreams. You start early the next morning and you don't want to be late. So needing dependable transportation to get you there you go out the day before to buy a car. The salesman has two and shows you a very nice one within your budget. It's not exactly cheap but it's an historically dependable model and it runs extremely well. While you thinking it over another party shows up with the cash and the salesman sells it to them.
Disappointed but still needing a car the salesman shows you the one he has left. It's a piece of shit with a reputation for being hard to start or not starting at all. It's anything but dependable but it is cheap so you buy it in hopes that, no matter how unlikely it may be, this car will start at 6:00 AM the next morning to get you to work on time. Naturally the piece of shit won't start (did you really expect it to?), you're late for work your first day on the job, get fired and find yourself back on the unemployment line once again. Forgetting all about the job you just lost as a result of a bad buying decision the only positive thing you rationalize to yourself is that car was cheap so you didn't take much of a risk on it, LOL.
I call this "The Theory of Lost Opportunity" and what disturbs me is that's what the Bears seem to be operating on right now and I don't see that as being good.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
