Angelo Press Conference Quotes
First, this tweet I found very interesting...
peggykusinski peggy kusinski
Amidst report #Bears close to signing C Chris Spencer (Sea) #Bears GM Angelo having animated conversations w/Lovie & Urlacher at practice.
Okay, let's go:
"Certainly disappointing, that he chose not to take our final offer... We gave him a fair offer."
"Olin Kreutz was a warrior. He led by his action."
It a "lie" there is potential rift between coaches, front office, labels it "dirty pool."
said he didn't give Matt Forte a timetable during the summer. But he said recently the "intent" is to do a new deal for him.
Roy Williams and Vernon Gholston took less to sign with the Bears.
He likes Roy Williams and Vernon Gholston because they picked The Bears over more money offers. "I like guys who bet on themselves."
On Greg Olsen: "We're not looking for Kellen Winslow. We're looking for Mike Ditka."
Calls Chris Spencer an experienced center in "prime" of his career.
"Hey, they didn't hire me to be loved."
"Come on this isn't a wake. That's what it's about people. We're sad but nobody died. We wish him (Kreutz) the best. He had a great career."
On Olsen: "We just didn’t feel we were going to be able to make that kind of investment."
"The tight ends we have now, really fit more of the profile we want for our offense"
"Well, tell me who you want. Who should we look at? Give me names. Don’t tell me about our problems... I’m in the solution business."
Confirms $500,000 difference: "it was accurate...we negotiated in good faith, we wanted Olin back, they saw it differently. We negotiated fair."
"He embodies what a football player is."
"Is it going to be a loss? Yeah, it's going to be a loss."
"It's about the team."
Angelo asked to name names when asked about veteran OL that would help. Big names not available. A reporter yelled, "Kreutz!"
"The tight ends that we have now really fit more of the profile that we want for our offense. It's no more than that."
"We hope (Olsen is) a Pro Bowler and just has a great career."
"We need to start developing some young players and how are you going to develop them if you don't play them?"
"We brought in an experienced center that's still in the prime of his career. It's the best we could do."
"Tell me who you want? Who should we look at? Give me names."
"They didn't hire me to be loved. Okay? They hired me to make decisions based on what's in the best interest of the team!"
"These offensive linemen are tough to find. We've got a good nucleus of young guys with traits that we look for, but they've got to come together."
And finally...
"I am just not sure if I want to play for anyone else. Retirement is definitely an option."
"I have more than enough money. It’s just a feeling I had from them, during the negotiations."
"I don’t anyone getting railroaded for why I left. I don’t want any of my old teammates feeling horrible that I am not there."
"Everybody leaves and misses their teammates and misses the fun but to leave on your own terms is something I’d like to do."
"It’s all water under the bridge. It’s been talked to death. They made a decision, I made a decision and it’s over."

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought Ditka helped break the mold of the TE only being a blocker....and also thought he was a bit on the small end for being a TE, even at that time. Could someone correct me on that if I am wrong?
If it was 500K then you can F off Jerry. Bring back the guy that knows the O and the team, continuity is worth that.
No doubt he likes guys that will take less to play for his team; he's a cheap jag; hense the 500K difference.

If 500k is nothing, then Kreutz couldve just as easily swallowed his pride and taken the Bears' offer. Even said himself that he has enough money. Works both ways.

Kreutz gave up money to stay with the Bears last contract. He gave one Bears give one. Also, other players may not give up a hometeam discount knowing this in years to come. Just my THOUGHT.

Jimmors he was also already taking a paycut to come back. It's not like he wasn't already losing money. It's a BS move.

and it was only going to be a one year contract anyway. yeah, it wouldve been nice to have him in the lockerroom and end his career on his terms, but the fact is, we were going to have to move on soon enough anyway. I believe Spencer will do fine this season, and im willing to bet that the Bears will draft a new C next year.

Well that's where you and a lot of us differ, I don't believe Spencer will be fine. If we are going in a different direction next year anyways, get the guy in here that knows the system, and knows the line calls. Spencer doesn't know that.

I dont disagree..ive even said so in earlier posts that we needed to re-sign Olin because we had no other options. But they picked up Spencer, so its at least an option for now. And i dont think its fair to blame the Bears while saying 500k is nothing, because if it really is a paltry number to get in a fuss about, then the same thing could be said about Olin. But, it is what it is.
-
And if you don't disagree, why are you? I'm glad your content to just be happy w/what the team does, but not everyone is going to accept that.
But he had already conceded cash Jimmors, that's negotiation, that's compromise. Like I think Soul said, give your now 2nd backup RB 4.5 mil and give the other 5K to the better C.

Best quote i heard on fox sports chicago, "not only is JA happy with his BUSTs ,but is happy picking up other teams BUSTS". not an exact quote but damn close. So true so true. The OL is what was needed the most, yet nothing yet. At this point, the Bears are worse off then before the lockout was lifted. Fact is I'm glad Cutler looks in better shape, for he'll be runnning for his life even more. PLEASE, please let me be wrong, I'd like nothing more then that.
