BOURBONNAIS — With the upheaval on the interior of the offensive line, the Bears made the decision not to wait any longer to set their tackles.

J'Marcus Webb lined up at left tackle throughout Monday's night practice with first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi now playing right tackle with the first team. Carimi got his first experience in a padded practice and held his own in one-on-one pass-rush drills.

"It felt good," Carimi said. "There is some stuff to clean up but just watch the film and I should be able to do that."

What did he do when he saw Julius Peppers across from him on the first snap?

"I was just trying to focus on what the play was," Carimi said.

The tackle decision was made after a meeting between coach Lovie Smith, offensive coordinator Mike Martz, line coach Mike Tice and even defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.

"I evaluated both kids all offseason by film and I think I have a great familiarity with those kids," Tice said. "I feel athletically Webb is more suited to be over there, although they both want to play on the left side. I wanted to give them two days in shorts to look at movement skills. I don't want to play games like we did last season."

New center Chris Spencer will work with the second team starting Thursday, but because he has spent his entire career in a West Coast offense, the language and terminology the Bears use is totally different, creating a steeper learning curve. When Spencer is ready, he'll compete with Roberto Garza for the center job. If Spencer wins it, Garza will move back to right guard and Lance Louis would then potentially battle Chris Williams for the left guard job.

Down to business: Adisa Bakari, the agent for running back Matt Forte, arrived Monday for face-to-face negotiations on a new contract. Bakari negotiated a $30.95 million, four-year extension for the Jaguars' Maurice Jones-Drew two years ago. That deal included $17.5 million guaranteed, but it didn't come together instantly. Surely, they have similar numbers — and a little inflation — in mind for Forte.

Extra points: Punter Richmond McGee and defensive tackle Sean Murnane were waived. Former punter Brad Maynard agreed to a one-year deal with the Texans and will compete with Brett Hartmann , an undrafted free agent from Central Michigan, for the job.Defensive tackle Marcus Harrison missed his third day as he works to get in condition. … Agent Mark Bartelstein said not to rule out Olin Kreutz signing with another team.

The first thing I want to know is who the hell is the midget in the Bears uni next to Carimi? Is that Dane Sanzenbacher or did we sign some high school kid?

Well as reported earlier this spring Tice is going with Webb at LT and from what Tice is saying it looks like it stays that way for now.

Got a kick out of the paragraph about Spencer. First of all the guy isn't as good a player as Olin and then he's not familiar enough with the terminology to even play his position yet. Yeah breaking it off with a take it or leave it to Kruetz was a real good idea wasn't it Jer?

And we get a little idea of what we're in for regarding Forte's extension. He'll be getting a deal about the same as DeAngelo Willims got or something in between that one and Jones-Drews.

As expected Podesh in and McGee out and not surprisingly Maynard gets another shot. And finally don't sign with anybody else Olin. Maybe they'll finally come to their senses when Garza can't handle it physically and Spencer can't learn the line calls and give in!

I was actually looking, at Kruetz has niether signed, considered any other offers, or signed is retirement papers...

there is still hope.... however fleeting it may be....

I think Lovie and Martz are kind of singing somewhat off the same sheet of music, but this kruetz thing STINKS of Ruskell and JA. I'm thinking more Ruskell since Spencer was his little pony boy....

Martz went and said he'd like more vets on the line.... I think that was more of a statement about kruetz than getting "other' vets to help out.... but that's just me...

Oh I have no doubt about that and I said it the minute someone posted the news on Spencer. With as little talent as JA has for evaluating offensive talent I think this one got passed to Ruskell and he convinced JA that his boy Spencer would be able to come in and play day one. Now we see what a load of crap all of this is. The raw truth is that this move is fvcking up the whole line.

Spencer doesn't know the terminology so ge can't make the calls and until he can Garza handles it. So all camp and maybe longer Garza plays out of position and then shifts back as soon as Spencer is ready to take over. Now in addition to the other issues cohesion between the lineman also suffers. You know the coaching staff isn't happy and would love to say it but can't. What a cluster fvck they made out of this over a lousy $500k from a $120 mil payroll.
