It is really scary to think about, but with the way the line is set up right now it appears everything hinges on Lance Louis. If he plays well we might be okay with a line looking like this,
LT Webb, it could be ugly but he has the size and long arms to bail himself out of situations and he is better than Omiyale. [+]
LG Louis, again a situation where anything is an upgrade over Chris Williams. Louis has everything we want in an OG, but a resume. [+]
C Spencer, he is not Olin Kreutz off the field and lets hope that he is not Olin Kreutz on the field either. This is a physical upgrade, but a leadership loss [+/-]
RG Garza, steady and the veteran presence I expect him to make the line calls. [+]
RT Carimi, he is the most talented of the group and is a physical upgrade as a rookie over a rookie JaMarcus Webb. [+]
I know that does not look good, but it is better than last year.

Consider this...
Lance louis is still young, and had all last year to be tutored by one of the best... in fact I think he was an early favorite of the coaches AND the fans to start at Guard over Garza....
he struggled mightily, but your gonna have that with young guys. second year in the system he could very well come alive like webb did last year. and by alive I don't mean burn up the stat sheet and pro bowl votes... I mean it in the "everything is making sense" context...
He has the physical tools, last year it was just learning where to be and what to do that kinda burned him.... so here's hoping Tice cranks out another quality starter from a young unknown.....

I really like the guy too but this may be his make or break opportunity. The way Martz is showering praise on Garza you know just as soon as Spencer can take over Garza goes back to RG. Once that happens Louis either has to take LG away from CWill or he stays a backup for another year.
I thought they might use him to replace Manu as a blocking back but if they brought back Will T and are still keeping E Will around at FB than my guess is that Martz will get away from his former approach and actually use FB's as his blocking back.
One way or the other I hope they find a place for him because I think he's got the potential to be a very good Olineman once he gets some experience.

Philadelphia's OG Nick Cole (6' - 339 lbs.) is still a FA, any thoughts on him?

He was a big up-and-comer at C after his first season starting in '09, but he fell flat on his face last season and now he's not looking too attractive.

Funny that there's been no interest in Locklear considering he's another Ruskell connection. We would have been far better off to keep Kruetz and sign him. Even now we have a need for a utility lineman and since OMG can't play OG Locklear would seem to be a better choice. I can't believe that they'd keep him around for another year after the job he did at LT last year.

Leave it to our brilliant GM and his lackey to keep bringing in garbage players left over from the lackey's regime as GM in Seattle.
Did anyone sign Leonard Davis, btw?

The more I think about it the best OL that the Bears can put on the field in my opinion looks like this,
LT Webb, it could be ugly but he has the size and long arms to bail himself out of situations and he is better than Omiyale. [+]

In my opinion this is a much better OL then last season.
Chris Williams must get to the bench, he is a bust, and the fact that we are still holding out hope is embarrassing. I was listening to Jeff Dickerson [ESPN Chicago] and he sounded embarrassed for Williams and had to hold back laughter about his performance at LG.
Louis intrigues me. Last year we saw a limited dose of him because injuries and the line shuffle. But Louis is big and athletic and is now moving into his 2nd season with Tice as his coach. Louis has the size and athletic ability to hang with the bigger DTs in the division.
To me Lance Louis will define this OL.

I am on board with no knowing what to make of Cole, but in reality he cannot hurt to bring in.
The simplest fact of this situation is that Chris Williams cannot be starting for the Bears OL.

Dude, how about you let the guy play in one spot for more than a few games before you shit all over him? Practice really means jack squat to me after this offseason. He had a very good run of play down the stretch once he figured out his assignments at LG and I'm willing to give him time to develop there.
In fact, I'm willing to bet all my Bears bucks and sigs that Chris will have a strong season and establish himself as a mainstay at LG.
