It's a long season. But I truly hope they don't push RW like they did with Todd freaking Collins.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

So they're sitting one of your better receivers in a crappy group from last season for someone who shouldn't see the field except for special teams and someone who shouldn't see the field period. Brilliant!

It should be Bennett and Knox OR Bennett and Williams imo.

I don't mind if RW is the starter, as long as he's worth it. Like Knox, he's got route running issues, but unlike Knox, he drops the ball a **** of a lot more. Bennett is still our #1, but after that, I think they should all fight to get it; preferrably with Hester playing a minimal amount on offense, of course.

anyone stop to think if he hadn't tweaked his back he very well could be out there, and we'd be hearing this from Hester?...

both are comparable IMO.... they've had plays that make your jaw drop for good reasons.... and the some for the wrong reasons...

Have we forgot that knox has a problems with route running??? I.E. cutting them short?... Hester may have made his fair share of mistakes but one things he's NEVER done is give up on a route...

They BOTH dropped big passes at times. They've BOTH run wrong routes and made cutlers job harder than it needs to be. but BOTH have shown the ability to make GREAT Grabs.

Knox with his toe tapping sideline grab and hester with his back of the endzone (sorta) one handed grab...

Hell they're both a lot better than anyone's given them credit for up to this point.... and in fact, untill two weeks this whole crop was "worthless practice squad material"....

With the new kickoff rules and all the of the punting out of bounce, they want to make sure, they squeeze every penny out of Hester.

Nice post Grizz. One of the reasons that Knox has been playing on the 2nd team is that apparently Devin Hester has been tearing it up in camp so far. Both Jay Cutler and Larry Mayer have commented on it and Mayer has written that so far Hester has been one of the top two or three players in camp. It may be somewhat disappointing but then again the competition this year is much tougher than it's ever been before.

I don't agree that RWill should be able to walk right in and be handed a staring role but what I think makes no difference to Mike Martz. We all knew when we signed him that's what would happen. From what Darryl Drake and even the other WR's are saying the addition of RWill and Hurd are forcing everyone to raise the level of thier play.

For too long now there have been all kinds of complaints about the talent level of our WR core. Now that those days seem to be over we should be overjoyed. No matter who starts we should be far better and deeper at WR than we ever have been before. With Martz running the show there should be plenty of opportunities to go around and guys who don't make key catches or run poor routes won't see as much playing time. Maybe for once we'll finally have more WR talent than we can use. Wouldn't that be nice.

    New receivers making impact

    Posted: 8/7/2011 1:59:00 PM
Roy Williams and Sam Hurd both caught touchdown passes in a red zone drill Saturday in practice. But the former Cowboys receivers haven’t only made an impact on the field with the Bears.

“[Their addition] has changed everything in a lot of ways,” said receivers coach Darryl Drake. “You’ve got that veteran presence in the room. You’ve got guys that have been in the league [for several] years, which makes a difference. You’ve got a guy like Sam that has high energy. You’ve got a guy like Roy that’s a big guy, that has a tremendous gift and a tremendous amount of talent.

“The biggest thing is you want competition in your room. When you’ve got competition in your room, it allows guys to grow. It allows guys to raise their level of play, and that’s what’s happening right now. We want them to continue to do that, and I look forward to that happening.”

Williams joins the Bears after spending his first seven NFL seasons with the Lions (2004-2008) and Cowboys (2008-2010). The 6-3, 215-pounder had the greatest success of his career while playing in Mike Martz’s offense with Detroit in 2006, earning a trip to the Pro Bowl after catching 82 passes for 1,310 yards and 7 touchdowns. Williams also thrived at Texas while being tutored by Drake.

Hurd arrives after spending his first five pro seasons with the Cowboys, where he contributed primarily as a reserve receiver and special teams standout—the same roles he’s expected to fill with the Bears. Williams and Hurd have helped ratchet up the intensity level at the receiver position in camp.

“Those guys just make us better as individuals and as a group,” said receiver Earl Bennett. “They make you work harder. It’s a competitive sport. Everybody’s out here trying to win a job. We’re just out here working hard. Those two guys have high energy and they’re just bringing the best out of everybody.”

“[Williams and Hurd] are stepping up and making plays,” said receiver Devin Hester. “The receivers group is starting to get more depth, which allows other guys to come out and be more fresh. The rotation is looking pretty good. We have at least five or six guys that can make plays
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Hester could set the world on fire right now, and nobody would give the kid his dues...

I've been saying it for years he's not nearly as bad as everyone thinks.... He like many others were flat out victimized by Ron turners system.... and one year in the Martz system and everyone's ready to cast him off....

He's one of the most deadly players in the NFL with the ball in his hands and you guys talk about him like he should be shining shoes in the parking lot....

Whatever. I'm a Hester fan and I wear it proudly. Kids a freak of nature and will finally get a chance to show it off this year.
