BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — Corey Wootton made an impact in his rookie season that reverberated throughout the NFL. It was his hit and sack of Brett Favre in December that put an end to Favre’s career.
‘‘I hear about that a lot — especially in Chicago,’’ Wootton said. ‘‘But that’s not the only thing I want to be remembered for.’’

Wootton played in six games as a rookie. But even after a week of training-camp practices that can fool anybody about anything, it looks like he’s determined to make a bigger impact in 2011 as the third defensive end behind Julius Peppers and Israel Idonije.

The 6-6, 270-pounder from Northwestern is hard to miss in practices, using his size, speed and aggressiveness to challenge any lineman. Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli has noticed.

‘‘I like what Wootton has done in camp,’’ Marinelli said. ‘‘He looks quick [and] fast. . . . He’s smart. He’s got great tempo. He’s trimmed down.’’

Hey Corey, in Chicago putting and end to Favre's career is a very good thing to be known for until you do something else of consequence. Glad to hear Marinelli is high on him. We badly need him to move up in that DE rotation this year.

I couldn't figure out thought why at 6'6" 270lbs he needed to trim down. That's what Izzy goes and Pep is 10-15lbs heavier.

Everyone carries it differently. Could have trimmed down as in "cut up" in certain areas, or he could have lost some weight to make things easier on his knee another year removed from the surgery.

    - Rookie season
    - Coming off a knee injury
Each is hard by itself. I'm not expecting huge things, but I've always had high hopes for this guy, and solid progress is all I want to see. Some guys take a bit longer to arrive, but I expect him to get there and it's good to have him on the team.
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?
