Ok... then when - Pre tell... do you suppose to get a good look at a guy you intend to use during the regular season?... Last I checked you play guys during the pre-season to see if they're going to fit during the regular season...
if you have a crystal ball method for seing how a good a guy is on ST without ever seing him play ST's.... by all means share with the class....

Yeah you do, at the position you plan to use them at. Is it your opinion that Wootton would be used primarily on kick coverage this year or as the #3 DE in a three or four man rotation? Let the guys who are playing for a roster spot as Special Teamers cover the kicks and then your logic makes sense. No crystal ball required then would there be?
Grizz you just keep defending your original position and that's fine but it's now a circular debate and that gets us nowhere. You seem to think Wootton should be a part time ST player and I happen to think that he shouldn't. Differences of opinion so no harm no foul.

Looks like Ghoulston just made the team...at least temporarily.
Thoughts?

The guy came into the league with a knee problem that looked like he finally getting past late last year and now he has to rehab all over again. So that's two of our Dlineman who'll be coming off meniscus tears now. WTF are they thinking using Wootton on ST's?
The way you word it right there soul, makes it sound like you think we should have "expendable" talent in there until the season starts THEN put wooton on ST's...
My issue was that the only way to know if he's gonna be any good or if we DO in fact want him ST, is to play him in the pre-season. if I took it the wrong way, my bad... but I don't think I did

Probably bad wording and frustration Grizz mostly because the reports from Marinelli on him have been rave. I guess I just hate losing the guy like that but could just as easily have happened another way too. Also I guess from what I just read Gholston was covering kicks too so may you're right. With a 46 man roster there may not be enough ST only guys to go around.

Once it gets to final cut down they'll have to keep a roster space open for him even though he may not be ready to go yet. It's either that or they put him on IR and they won't do that I'm sure. Yeah in all likelihood Gholston will get his reps for a while until he either locks himself in or someone else beats him out. Given the fact that they paid him a $250k signing bonus my guess is that anyone who did outplay him in preseason would have to do it very convincingly.
My guess is that Wootton will be practicing by the time the season starts but may still not be 100% for another month or so after that. It depends on how bad it was and how fast he heals.

And looking on the cup half full side at least nobody has had the bright idea of using Peppers on kick offs.

With Wootton injured hopefully that won't come next, LOL. For a month or more we're down to him and Izzy so they better keep those two in bubble wrap until the season starts.

Another injury to the same knee he injured in college. NOT GOOD!

Wondered if that was the same knee. JA is going to trade for a DE now.
