At this point seeing the oline how long you play cutler against the giants?
I'm with you guys I think Taylor doesnt deserve a roster spot. One reassuring thing is we are stacked at rb. Everyone of them looked good except Taylor. Nice seeing what unga brings to the table after missing time with family issues

Our defense line is looking good. I see okoye might be getting a long term deal after this season.
Our defense is just stacked can't complain about that
I had trouble with the video stream while the starters were playing early on. Did Webb and Louis look that bad or was it just because the blocking assignments were fvcked? To me it looked like a Chinese Fire Drill out there when I could watch a play. I don't think Garza knows how to make the line calls.

Glad you saw it in person I just wish my net stream would have been better. From what I could watch they all looked lost to me. That's why I think they need too yank Garza out of OC. I don't think he has the savvy to make line calls and play the position. Move him back to RG and give Louis a little more time to develop and put Spencer at OC. At least he has the experience required.
Not good to hear the Webb = Q thing though. I'd give him one more game out there to pull it together and if he's still struggling then move Carimi over to LT.

Agree 1000000 percent garza needs to be put back to g. We are stuck with what we have and I'm hoping Webb can develop but I have seen not one thing potential wise other then size. If it is he is talented but raw then ja did him a disservice not having sOmeone that could play while he learns on the bench
If I was in charge right now my oline would be carimi-sign waters-Spencer-garza-williams. I would not roll with Webb and Louis out there

Falcons' John Abraham, Ray Edwards, and Jonathan Babineaux after learning that the Bears' OLine gave up 9 sacks.

Kudos to "Toe" as well for filling in for AA nicely since Harrison appeared to get inured while looking down for the donut he dropped instead of filling his gap. No great loss there. They showed a shot of him on the sidelines after he came out and he looks like a nice fat kid to me.
He'd be better off playing "Fat Albert" in a Cosby episode than playing DT in the NFL though.
There's an absolute ton of work to do on that Oline over the next three weeks and maybe it should start with moving Garza back to his natural position at RG and playing Spencer at OC. It's hard to believe that he could do any worse than Garza no matter how little he's digested off the offense so far. Item number two is to give Webb one more week at LT before swapping him with Carimi to see if Gabe can handle rushers like Merriman better than Webb can. That line still has a long way to go.
I agree largely with this preliminary analysis. Realizing that is has only been one PS game in a very shortened offseason, this is what I took away:
Offense
1) Barber looks like a solid pickup as a short-yardage/blocking back. A big upgrade over Chester Taylor.
2) CT is--or should be--as good as gone. His chance of staying on the team has all but evaporated and deservedly so.
3) Bell made a strong case for the #3RB spot. Looks like Unga and the others are competeing for the #4/FB spot (hope we don't keep more than 4 total).
4) I'm not understanding why Tice announced and annointed his "starting 5 for the RS opener" OL. I know he left himself wiggle room by also saying "unless someone falters" but, if it's too early to negatively judge these 5's play as a unit, then it ought to be too early to lock in (some) starters too. If this OL plays as poorly vs. the NYG next week, there MUST be positional changes.
5) The most obvious of which is to move Garza back to RG--where he was decent last year.
6) Spencer needs to take over OC. I hope that dude is furiously learning the schemes and calls.
7) Louis looked BAD. ONE MORE PS GAME MAX for him to start then he needs to be benched as Garza takes over RG and CWill stays at LG.
8) Webb at LT is really, really is concerning. I know he's learning a new spot but it's the most important one and we are THIN at OT. The only option I see if Webb continues to flounder is to move him back to RT (where he was somewhat decent late last year) and swap Carimi back to his collegiate position at LT. A lot to ask of a rookie but the alarm bells are ringing.
9) Disappointed that we didn't see any action towards Roy.
Defense
1) It's the Bills but looked really sharp. Our DL looks GOOD & DEEP.
2) Okoye looks like a major FA score on the cheap.
3) Ghoulston....goner? No wonder he was a 1st round bust with the NYJ.
4) Marcus Harrison's injury oughta be the last straw--bye, bye
5) We may have to win a bunch of 10-3 games this year if the OL situation doesn't improve considerably.

I think the fact that he went after Bushrod hot and heavy right off the bat was a tipoff to their lack of confidence that he was ready yet. All spring long I've been saying that they should try Carimi there first but Tice seems too enamored with Webbs size and athleticism to admit that he may not catch on to it well enough mentally to play out there on that island.
I may be wrong but wasn't the reason he ended up at West Texas A&M is because he couldn't hack it scholastically at a Div. I school like Texas?
From what I saw I thought CWill did ok in the running game but it's hard to tell how he or anyone else did in pass protection with as much confusion as seemed to be going on. Maybe you're right and we need to bring in a vet OG to play RG, move Garza back to LG and let CWill and Carimi work at OT with whoever can actually handle the rush playing at LT.
Maybe there's talent there but these guys seem too raw to me not to have more experience in that line for at least one more year. I just can't see where two or three more weeks of film study and work in camp and games is gonna make these guys into a serviceable unit come September 11th. Martz wants to pass and he uses far to little play action and rollouts to pocket pass behind these guys as it stands.
If Waters is out there they should be calling his agent today or the agent of any other guy who could give a year or two of service just like Ruben Brown. I think it's gonna take at least another year and better players in competition with one another to make a difference.

Barring a trade I think thats the only options we have left to make this jalopy of a line run. I'm glad we have a bit more oomph in the running game though. Maybe this will temper pass happy Martz-maybe.
