Thread: Mike Tice overrated?

I can't believe the way he whiffed on that one block.

At this moment in time I think two of his theories are being blown to bits.

1) That because of his superior athleticism Webb is a better prospect for LT right now than Carimi. Not playing with enough "intensity" as he said is not how you protect your multi-million dollar QB. Carimi definitely would not lack "intensity".

2) That Roberto Garza is the best option for replacing Olin Kruetz. What I see so far is a very good run blocking OG struggling to handle both the line calls and his blocking assignments. Why don't we let the OC's play OC and the OG's play OG? I'd move Garza back to OG and Spencer and/or EWill into OC this week.

What we need to avoid is another 4 or 5 weeks of having to determine who the five best guys are and what their best positions are. I don't he's got that established yet despite what he says.

I'm of the mind to not jump to conclusions after 10 days of camp and one preseason game. Am I concerned, yep. Just not ready to fire a coach because of the play of his players, especially at this point in this season.

He shouldn't be fired just criticized for what may be wrong thinking that's all. I had my misgivings about this "there is no competition, these are my five guys" thing from the start. I can understand his thinking behind it but maybe that thinking is proving wrong. His offseason decisions about who to play where may have looked good on paper but are they sound in practice.

It's not so much about panic as it realizing that we do have a very short time to fix this thing and wasting time on a theory disproved won't help. Maybe he's just a little too enthused about the potential of Webb and Louis to see that they need to bake on the bench a little longer before they're ready for the starting table. Raw lineman that aren't ready to be served yet.

As much as I criticize the Bears, I can not blame one man for the fault of several. This somewhat reminds me of all the idiots that had been critical of Kreutz. Many thought that since he (Kreutz) was the leader of the O-line, that it was his ineptitude that held the O-line back. Well, were (4) or (5) other guys out on the LOS with him. To blame lack of productivity on Tice, OR Kreutz, is STUPID...!!! Especially when considering the talent, or lack thereof, on the roster.

I am almost thinking that Lovie may not be doing such a bad job. Remember, I said ALMOST...!!!
