Getty ImagesThree weeks after signing with the Bears, wide receiver Roy Williams says there’s something big he needs to improve before he can be the kind of contributor he wants to be in Chicago.
“My conditioning,” Williams said, per John Mullin of CSNChicago.com. “Getting my wind right. You have to be able to run in this offense. Run all day long.” Williams says it’s not his fault that he’s not in shape. According to Williams, there was nothing he could have done during the lockout to get himself into shape for a football season, because the only thing that gets you into football shape is playing football. “I’m a firm believer in no matter what you do in the offseason, nothing will get you football ready except for playing football,” Williams said. “That’s what I believe. It’s tough. You can run all the hills and mountains that you want to, but when you get out here and play for four seconds and jog back to the huddle, that’s what gets you in shape.” Bears quarterback Jay Cutler said Williams appears to be getting closer to being in shape, and that he’s confident Williams will be ready to go a full game at full speed soon.
“Roy’s definitely getting back into shape, taking more plays every day,” Cutler said. “You can see more glimpses of Roy Williams each and every day.”
Soon, the Bears will want Williams to be in good enough shape that they can see more than just glimpses.
Guess he won't be joining Matt Forte for offseason condtioning anytime soon huh? I may eventually change my mind but nothing so far has convinced be that RWill is anything more than a lazy overpaid shell of what he might have been. He won't even take responsibility for being out of shape. It sound to me like he and Marcus Harrison have similar offseason conditioning programs.
I just hope this experience with him doesn't turn out to be the second coming of "Manu the Kahuna Tuna".

‘‘I’m just trying to be where I’m supposed to be when I’m supposed to be there, and not fooling him. That’s our No. 1 goal,’’ Williams said. ‘‘And I’m just trying to talk to him off of the field, trying to be buddy-buddy, trying to get a couple balls. That’s how it works.’’ Williams winked, emphasizing his playful comment before concluding, ‘‘He kind of gives me the cold shoulder every once in a while.’’
Well since your choice in women suck and jay ended his engagement I guess your next option is to go homo.
What a T.O./Chad Ochocinco wannabee, without the tremendous accomplishments to justify this kind of cocky/diva behavior. What a miss. Hopefully, if we know whats good for us, we will desperately pursue contract DB killer-for-hire-mercenary TERRELL OWENS around the start of the reg season. Yes, even at age 38, T.O. could out-ball Roy any day of the week. If you deny it, you're only kidding yourself.
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – Roy Williams made a fan for life when he handed his gloves to a little boy near the end of practice Friday. By then, the veteran receiver had already endeared himself to the rest of the crowd by catching two touchdown passes from Jay Cutler in a red-zone drill.
Roy Williams has been making plays with increasing regularity in training camp.“That’s where you make your money,” Williams said of plays inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. “That’s how you get on TV. Fantasy football guys, they really appreciate touchdowns. It’s a big part of the game. If we score, pretty much we win.”
Williams snared one of the passes in the left corner of the end zone with cornerback Charles Tillman all over him. The other came on a skinny post over the middle.
“I’m comfortable with the offense, I’ve been comfortable with the offense,” said Williams, who made the Pro Bowl in 2006 while playing in Mike Martz’s system with the Detroit Lions.
“I’m just making the plays when I get the opportunities. Just taking what the defense is giving us, and Jay’s making the right read and making the right throw and I’m making the catch. But it’s not only me. All of the receivers are making plays, even the tight ends.”
Due to his familiarity with the offense, Williams hasn’t had much of a learning curve.
“The system hasn’t changed,” he said. “We kind of ran the same thing in Dallas, just a little different. It’s more detailed up here. So I’m trying to get the Dallas things out of my body and out of my mind and get back into this Martz thing, and I’m just taking it day-by-day.”
Through that process, Williams has continued to build a rapport with Cutler. “It’s real good,” Williams said. “It’s kind of like two strangers meeting, trying to figure this thing out. We sit and talk and try to get this thing on the right track, and we’ll see what happens.”
Williams and Cutler have clicked with greater regularity in recent practices. “I think Jay is very comfortable with Roy and Roy obviously is getting back into the groove of what we do,” Martz said. “For what we do, there is a different kind of conditioning, and he is getting used to that part of it as well. He’s coming along well.”

He's not T.O. and he's Ocho but it looks like we have our won version now. Roy "the mouth from the south" Williams. He's only scoring from inside the 20 so I'm guessing he's not fully able to run the lenght of the field yet. Some of you guys have been calling for a prima donna WR like T.O. for a while now so we finally went out and got us one, LOL.

Outside of the OL situation, RWill has to be the biggest disappointment of this (still young) PS. Here's a guy that had a couple of good seasons followed but 3 subpar ones, is still young enough to make a career for himself, and has to know that this is his final big chance to become a bonafide NFL wideout. If he flops here (no QB or coaching excuses can apply) he will never be anything other than a backup for the rest of his time in the NFL. You would think the guy would come into TC with something to prove...
Instead, he apparently shows up deconditioned and has (perhaps except for the last few days) done little to distinguish himself in TC. Funny that Knox, Forte, Cutler, etc. had no problem starting in top physical shape. It all speaks to a lack of killer instinct from a guy who maybe just looking to "get by". Hope I'm wrong but not very encouraging thus far...
