4th, you gotta look at it from this perspective: He knows he can't fix the offense, so he's just making sure he has enough bodies on defense, so that he can rotate good ones in and out enough so that they don't wear out by the end of the year. lol

Unless Jay Cutler gets hurt we won't see our 3rd string qb that Jerry drafted this year. Still we are a top 10 defense and we draft a DT and pick up 2 more in FA while we draft only 1 OL and sign Olins replacement who may not even start this year makes perfect sense. Lets trade away Greg Olsen and pick up Roy Williams to boster our 30th ranked offense. Lets not forget our wonderful offensive line lead the league in giving up sacks. Yeah I guess I get the picture that we should continue to keep stock piling safetys and neglect the OL more because the safety position is very important. I will take a well balanced team vs being one dimensional like we have been over the last couple of years. I also want to see our franchise qb make the probowl but that won't happen if you keep surrounding him with crap that we have.
I'll give JA credit for attempting to add talent to the Oline in FA but at the same time I criticize him for the way he went about it and for coming away empty handed (Spencer doesn't even count). My question is if they were so damn certain that Webb could handle the switch from RT to LT then why was a LT their number one target in FA? That question answers itself. Next up on the list is Willie Colon who to me made more sense all along.
Colon plays the right side and is an OT who could play OG therefore exactly the kind of guy JA said they were looking for. We had just drafted a LT so our next biggest problem was at OG and Colon is a guy who could have helped. He could also have played RT in the event that Webb's play didn't progress and would have been a whole lot more valuable now, after losing Olin Kruetz. It would be Colon playing RG replacing Garza and not Louis.
I think an attempt was made to improve the Oline in FA but it was a failed attempt because it was poorly planned, poorly executed and there was no Plan "B" to fall back on. The result is the "Chineses Fire Drill" we have going on now where we have 4 guys starting in new positions and an Oline coach we won't play the LT we drafted number one at LT because he insists the other guy is better. They can talk about their faith in this bunch all they want but it's plain as day they've screwed this up and now they're gonna continue to struggle with it long past the first game.
Don't blame them for not doing anything about it. Blame them for not getting it done!

I have always had mixed reviews for JA. The biggest thing is when he puts all his weight behind one single thing (the D line) of course they have a much better chance to be good. When he realizes that a better OL will synergisticly improve the DL by improving time of possession, field position, and scoring watch out.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

I don't know but that Lovie and JA have a very poor understanding of what happens on the offensive side of the ball and the basic talent it takes to make that work. It's funny you know. They seem to understand that their defense functions well when we have a strong Dline that can control the runs and bring constant pressure against the pass but they totally miss that as it relates to the offense.
You can have a great QB and some of the best skill players in the league but unless you play them behind a stable Oline who can block you still can't mount a consistent threat offensively. Even when they have paid some attention to the line it's been half measures at best that work just like half measures always do.
I think the reason that Martz has had so much influence on offensive personnel even though he's only been a for a year is because no one else has the balls to step forward and do it. They seem to lack the confidence in themselves. Maybe Tice and Ruskell can help in this regard but unfortunately neither has been here long enough to have made a dent yet so we still have half and Oline instead of a whole one.
