    Injury Updates For This Weekend..........

Bears WR Hurd ruled out vs. Titans

By Vaughn McClure, Tribune reporter 4:38 p.m. CDT, August 25, 2011

Bears receiver Sam Hurd has been ruled out of Saturday's exhibition game against the Titans with a sprained right ankle, coach Lovie Smith said.

Hurd injured his ankle in Monday night's loss to the Giants. He'll join Lance Briggs (bruised knee) and Anthony Adams (strained calf) in street clothes Saturday.

Hurd expected to be sidelined a week but no longer than two weeks. Rookie Chris Conte is expected to fill Hurd's role on special teams.

Hurd was out of a walking boot Thursday but wore a protective sleeve during practice. Briggs and Adams were spectators too, along with tight end Kellen Davis, who is dealing with a stiff back. Davis' status for the Titans remains unclear.

Smith said none of the injuries appears serious.

Cornerback Zack Bowman, who practiced for the second consecutive day, appears fully recovered from a mild concussion. Running back Harvey Unga still has not rejoined the team since being excused for personal reasons.

And defensive end Corey Wootton remains sideline following knee surgery.

So Hurd is out along with AA, Briggs as questionable and maybe Davis as probable. Caught that Unga still has not returned which pretty much says his year and maybe career in Chicago are over.

I wonder how much sanzabah has played on ST so far this year. I mean, all things equal, he seems a better WR than Hurd and Turd (do i need to explain who that is?). Hopefully that injury to Hurd brings him up some.

When the games count he'll be in there. I'll bet on that. Iwuh hasn't done a bad job of filling in but he's no Briggsy.

They are playing Sanzenbacher on ST although where and how much I can't say. It's hard to follow all of the various guys especially in the preseason. Conte will replace Hurd along with Graham as the "gunner's on punt coverage tomorrow. I think Hurd has the tools to be a good WR if they give him a chance. He doesn't have RWill's bulk but then again he comes without an attitude that says treat me like the start I am and probably much better hands.

If Sanz (see we already have a nickname for him) plays well again tomorrow I think there's no way he gets left off the roster. I think there's a lot more likelihood we'd see Kris Adams on the PS than Sanz. We have other deep threats in Hester and Knox what he don't have is another Bennett type guy who can get open and catch everything you toss his way.

They were talking about him earlier on the radio, he is the type of player who gets into football shape in the preseason workouts and games. Unlike Urlacher who works out like a freak in the offseason

Are you talkin' about Briggs here? I've never once heard of him coming to camp out of shape. The injury reports says he got a knee bruise. If it's a really deep bruise it'll be painful but not incapacitating like ligament damage would be. If he's still hobbled by it two weeks from now I'll start to worry about it but for now I don't see it as any big deal. I think holding him out is only a precaution at this point.
