Cowboys cut probowl center- should we make a move?
Gurode, a second-round pick in 2002, had been the longest-tenured member of the team. He was scheduled to make $5.5 million in 2011 and was signed through 2012. He started 122 games in his nine seasons and turned into a Pro Bowler after moving from guard to center in 2006.

What do you guys think? I know we have a center in the waiting, and the last two preseason games we only allowed 1 sack. We still need to improve there i think. What say ye?

I see this guy being only a one year fix at best before it's time to consider younger options again.

meh, I think we should draft a C next year. We're young up front for the most part and I say we keep going that way barring a FA miracle.

I'm all for Drafting a Center. I think Webb, Williams, and Carimi are solid for the futre. Louis i'm still on the fence about and Garza is just getting old.
but something I have noticed is, as the old saying goes, nobody's talking about Garza, and if your a linemen and your name isn't getting brought up a whole lot that's usually a good thing.
I think he'll get us through this year, but next year will see changes again.

Yeah although always interested to see a move made I think at this point the line is better served with some continuity, adding another revamped member into the mix would take time all over again.

If they would have pulled the trigger on the Olsen pick sooner with the 3rd round pick we could have gotten Wisniewski.

Yeah, I can't see what Gurode could do any more than Spencer and we're not even starting him yet. Garza seems to be getting a handle on it because the line isn't any where near the mess it was two weeks ago. Spencer is just 29 so he's not ready for retirement just yet and the rookie Linnenkohl may stick on the PS. If not we should be looking at an OC in the draft so I agree with you there Grizz.
Actually we need to be spending at least one of our first three picks on offensive lineman for about the next two or three years. Teams with great Olines always have quality players developing in their pipeline so that by year three those guys are good to go in the event of injuries or the loss of vets in FA.

Insurance, people. I know the line is what to look at in the preseason, but if we can get another able body in the mix, in case they either falter or get injured, the better. we have the ******* cap space..

We've at least got to consider him. At this point we know that our interior is going to consist of a mix of Williams, Garza, Louis and Spencer but it's going to be a long, brutal season in the trenches, we're going to need all the quality depth we can get. Asiata and the other linemen on the bubble haven't done enough to distinguish themselves.
Should also be looking at a way of moving Omiyale down the chart at tackle.
Back on to center... anyone heard much about center Linnenkohl... is he headed for the practice squad towards being cut?

I think if we're looking for interior line help we'd be much better off bringing in Brian Waters as an OG instead of Andre Gurode who's an OC. They're both about the same age and it gives us some depth at LG. Maybe the problem is that these older vets are only interested if they can start and then there's still the issue of whether we'd be better off with a younger guy making $400k to play backup than a 10 yr vet who'd be making $900k to do the same.
Cornish, I don't know much about what's happening with Linnenkohl because I don't think he's played much if at all. Spencer has been running with the 2nd team and they just cut Brignone who was the other rookie OC they signed so your guess is as good as mine right now. If he's been able to show anything at all in practice he may make the PS if only to play on the scout team.
I think if there's anybody on the waiver wire they believe could replace OMG they'll bring him in but I doubt we'll see it. He has game experience at LT and as badly as he played it's still experience so they'll keep him around as a spare.
