I knew we could not resist! Finally, two solid starters in the back end.

Okay, so we aren't going to draft a safety if all goes well, right? Same thing with DT? So that leaves just 1 glaring need and 2 places for improvement (CB, WR) RIGHT?

They haven't anounced it because he hasn't actually signed his contract yet. I'm betting it isn't for much more than $1 mil though. I put a post up in the Rivals Forum when I saw that he'd been let go and I wondered whether or not we'd pick him up. Probably a very good move given the lack of experience we have at Safety with Manning gone. I like the idea of a rotation that includes Meriweather much like we had last year with Manning and Wright.

More than makes up if it is worth what Soul guesses.

Gonna need another LB and maybe two if they do decide to trade Briggs in the offseason. There and at DE is where we have two starters who are or will be over 30 by next year. Time to begin reloading. I think what we draft next April will depend a lot on where we pick.

Great WR don't usually fall to the bottom of the first round and Angelo seems to fear drafting one before the 3rd anyway. Good zone CB's, LB's and DE's can be gotten late in the first and far into the second but I think we'd be real lucky to get a good LT there. I think we were very fortunate that Carimi fell to us this year and even at that they've got him playing RT.

As far as LT is concerned I think we'll have to keep our fingers crossed that Webb makes it or Tice moves Carimi back to the left side. Otherwise we'll be looking at the FA list again next spring for help although it won't be as good a pickin's as this year IMO.

Here's a report on his involvement in that shooting from last month. Another player from the U who seems to have trouble attached to him. Let's hope it straightens out while he's here. He's young and has had a productive career so I'm surprised NE released him.

Meriweather now viewed only as witness in shooting case

New England Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather can go into the new season without worrying about potential criminal charges hanging over his head.

Orange County (Fla.) police said Friday that Meriweather is no longer considered a suspect in a Feb. 28 shooting that injured two men outside a bar in Apopka, Fla., according to The Boston Herald.

Meriweather is still connected to the case, however, since he is considered a potential witness. Meriweather's lawyer has maintained all along that his client was nothing more than a "peacemaker" in the incident.

A police information officer said the case has been "inactivated," but is not closed. Meriweather has declined to discuss the events of the night, according to police.
Meriweather graduated from Apopka High School in 2002, then played at the University of Miami. He was selected in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft by the Patriots and completed his fourth season in 2010.

This isn't the first time that Meriweather's name has been mentioned in regard to a violent incident. In October 2006, while still at Miami, Meriweather was part of an on-field fight with several Florida International players.

About three months earlier, Meriweather fired at an alleged assailant who had shot Miami backup safety Willie Cooper outside the house the two players shared with another teammate, police said. Meriweather wasn't charged, and police said he legally used the gun, for which he had a permit.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Maybe NE knows a suspension is coming that could knock him out for a period of time and that is why he was dropped.

If that is the case, boneheaded move by the Bears

I can't see why he's be suspended since he's been cleared of any personal involvement. At this point all he's being looked at as is a witness. No grounds for a suspensions there as far as I can see. Anyway, Goddell has got to get slapped back into place. He's going overboard with some of this stuff like he's got a Napoleanic complex or something. He's just the NFL Commissioner, not it's Emperor.

You're not by chance suggesting that JA................................naw! LOL

I'll give them credit for getting Hurd and Podlesh for the ST and for signing Sanz as an UDFA although that was pretty easy since this is the only place he wanted to be. Nick Reed may turn out to be a real find too if he can bring pressure in the regular season like he did in the preseason.

Most of my problem with it is we need two good moves to offset every bad one like RWill so Okoye and Meriweather cancel out that fukup! Maybe it's good that we didn't get a big dog though. Sanz may never have gotten the chance to shine that he did it that were so.
