    Bears waive Moore, sign Allen

By: Larry Mayer | Last Updated: 9/5/2011 10:09 AM

The Bears on Monday waived second-year cornerback Joshua Moore and signed rookie running back Armando Allen to the practice squad.

Moore, a 2010 fifth-round draft pick, appeared in three games last season as a rookie, recording one tackle.

Allen entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Buccaneers. The 5-10, 190-pounder was waived after rushing for 28 yards on eight carries and catching a 20-yard touchdown pass in the preseason.

Kind of funny that we would cut a guy at a position we're weak at and sign a guy at one we're not but no big deal. Moore hasn't done anything to impress me this preseason and he's still on the small side weight wise.

I don't know much about Allen so maybe someone followed ND last year can add some insight. There's nothing in the way of a decent scouting report and he wasn't very highly ranked coming our of college. Maybe a ST type guy?

I figured a DB would be released after Meriweather's signing but assumed it would be Venable. Not a big surprise though here as we all knew JMoore was on the bubble so to speak and he did nothing this PS to solidy his status. It looks like CB is going to be a prime position of need (along with LB) for next offseason/draft.

Btw, I re-watched the Browns game on DVR and with the benefit of rewind & slow-mo you could really see how explosive & high-motor Reed was off the line. The guy was IMPRESSIVE even taking into account that he was plaing against 2nd stringers. Addison was less so but still made some nice plays. If Wooten comes back strong, we should have a really superb group at both DE and DT. DeCicco also played well and showed better range and instincts imo that I had anticipated (although he definitely should have held on to that pick). If he can become even just a DECENT backup for Urlacher, that is a real find. Venable had a couple of nice ST reps which I'm sure is the reason he made the final cut and still hangs on to his roster spot.

Soul, have you seen anything about a possible 6th LB signing? Or heard any rumors about Pisa?

So Venable is a bit more important than Moore. Kind of surprising. I wonder if there is a corner we can scrape up.

All I know is that they've said they're keeping an eye on where Pisa is in his rehab. Everything they've done tells me that the intend to bring him back when he's healthy if he can pass the physical. I haven't seen anyone else on the waiver wire so far who could help.

We face some real tough passing offenses in this first month so we'll be in nickel coverage a lot with the SLB out. They probably figure we can make it with 5 LB's for now so we carry an extra DB which is why Venable made the cut. He's a very good ST guy and Moore was not. The other thing this says to me is that Corey Graham finally has Lovie's trust as a backup CB and will play behind Peanut with Bowman behind Jennings. That's only 4 CB's so we're light at that position too. Staying healthy is gonna be a key if we can't add any depth.

Reed has done nothing but impress me from the very first preseason game. His college scouting report describes very accurately exactly what we're seeing from him. He's not 40 yd fast, which is what limits him as a LB, but he's very quick off the snap because he anticipates so well. He also has a variety of moves and a very high motor. Marinelli always says that he doesn't care all that much about size as long as you can rush the passer and Reed can definitely do that.

DeCicco has some things to learn but he does remind me a lot of Hilly both in size and instincts. I'm a little worried about him being all that we have behind Urlacher so he needs to stay healthy but DeCicco could be that backup MLB/SLB we had in Hilly.

Statistically, Chester the molester had a better preseason than Allen and at least some of his reps were against first or second teamers. Retarded. But I guess the fact that he had double hip surgery last year means he fits right in with JA's tactics. Sign a fucking LB already.

Joshua Moore has done absolutely nothing to earn a starting job. He is a bust and should have never been drafted by the Bears. Getting rid of him is a pretty good move imo. Now we could take a look at CB Lito Sheppard, what do you think?

Too bad Tennessee didn't waive Tim Shaw.

Joey LaRocque was waived ( if anybody remembers him). He was a decent ST player for us and is a LB so he prob still remembers some of the system. Not my 1st choice but if there's a huge rash of injuries.....
What should you call any : Fumble , Hold , Interception , Three and out , or Sack ?

    A " F.H.I.T.S " ? or a J'Marcus ?

It came out just a little while ago but not published. JA thought the waiver wire said Marcus Allen and he figured he could get another former 1st rounder cheap.
