Thumbs up Missing: my warm fuzzy feeling.

I wish I could be confident about the Bears winning this weekend, but, I can not shake that nagging worry from the back of my head.

In my opinion, this weekends results could be the product of which Mike Martz shows up on Sunday. Will it be the Martz that allowed Cutler to be sacked (9?) times (in the first half) against the Giants last season...??? That could be bad. After all the time that it had taken the Bears to finalize the O-line, it has seen a 50% turnover. We now feature a rookie tackle, and a new center and tight end. Add to that the lack of preperation due to the lockout, and we could be staring a disaster right in the face. In addition to that, who is Cutler going to throw too...??? Roy Williams...??? Which Roy Williams is going to show up...??? Hopefully Martz will not be stupid and attempt to force his "Greatest Show on Turf" scheme upon us this season.

The defense. They will be tested from the start. Can the secondary stop anybody...??? If my warm fuzzy was not missing, I would say yes. Shortly we will find out.

Also, lets see how field position plays out for the Bears this season. With the changes, can the Bears adapt...??? This could also hurt the offense. They had better be able to move the ball.

Just curious, when was the last time you had a warm fuzzy feeling about the Bears? Was it the night of January 26, 1986, about 10 PM?

When watching the game this weekend just add more bourbon to get that warm fuzzy feeling back...

haha, well that is close to the last time I had one, probably about a year later.

I'm an optimist, but have been watching since the early/mid 70's, so I never "relax" about a game or season.

Last time i had the warm fuzzy feeling was when Devin Hester returned the opening Kickoff in SB XLI for a TD.....but then shortly thereafter Rex took the field, and yeah...didnt last long.

I had a record number of heart attacks that game:

1 for Benson's fumble in our own 10
2 when manning ***** up on coverage to give wayne the tying score
3 when Grossman fumbled the first snap
4 when Grossman fumbled the second snap
5 when Grossman threw the pick 6 that cost us the game

Those are just the negative heart attacks i had.

The key to these first few games is that Martz has to get his offense on track and score some points. This crap of marching down the field only to be stopped inside the five or then ten yardline needs to end. Too many times we end up with 3 when we should have had 7. Every two drives that end like that costs us that additional TD we end up losing by.

These upcoming games are not ones where scoring opportunities can be wasted. As far as I'm concerned much of the make or break of this season depends on what happens during the first four games. If the offense develops confidence in itself we can win games but if we get stopped short of a score too often when we reach the red zone that confidence won't develop and we lose games because we don't capitalize on those opportunites.

Jay Cutler has proven to me that he's not a QB who needs big plays to win. He's fully capable of successfully mounting long drives. What's disturbing me is the lack of execution and/or lousy playcalling that seems to all too often stop us short of paydirt. That's what needs to change right from the start this year.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
