    Chicago Bears Jay Cutler's checklist

    Matt Ryan CHECK
    Drew Brees
    Aaron Rodgers
    Phillip Rivers
    Kyle Orton

Four QBs who most put ahead of Cutler, and one most media and some fans say is better than Cutler.

    One down, four to go

The only person on this board who ever thought Orton was better than Cutler was that idiot Mikey. Very few Bronco fans who I talk to, including several yesterday, think that. At least 8 out of 10 who know anything about football think that trading him was the worst thing they ever did.

As it stands I'd put Rodgers ahead of him if only on the basis of having played better longer and having won a Super Bowl. But, at the same time I'd also have to say that Rodgers has played longer in a pass oriented offense that's built around his strengths than Cutler has. To be fair they should be compared on the basis of where each is or was in their second years as a starter within the same offense.

That aside there's no reason why Cutler can't be every bit as good as Rodgers or any of the others you list Benji. Anyone who watched him yesterday could see that, given time, he has just as much talent for picking a defense apart as the others.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Only b/c of how lousy Mc was did that trade fall our way. But ya Cutler better then Orton, and I would have put him better then Matty. I don't put him, yet, in the same league and Brees or Rogers. Rogers is a lot better then I would have given him credit for before last year started.

Hate to rain on your parade Benji, wait...what am i saying? I love raining on people's parades. Fuck your parade, why wasnt i invited? But i digress...what you are doing might involve you retracting your initial assumption later on. Or to put it more bluntly: its not smart to make a checklist comparing Cutler to top QBs in the league. Yes, i know it would be fun to check them off one by one just to prove a point, but you could just as easily be proven wrong and left with egg on your face.

No, this game had more to do with our two different defenses then it did with QB talent. Ryan IS a good QB, he's proven it before, he just met a better defense in the Bears'. Our defense is crazy good. Falcons? Not so much. They claimed their thrashing by the Packers in the playoffs was an aberration, but now its looking like their Defense is the problem.

And, fwiw...Cutler can have a craptacular game against the Saints or Packers, and we could still win those games thanks to our D and STs. So who has the better QB is quite immaterial when you have solid defense.

IMO, Cutler has the talent to be as good as any of the QB's listed. Hopefully with his maturing comes a little patience. Watching yesterday's game, I forgot how quickly he can deliver a ball 20+ yds. down field. I'm impressed that he came to camp in the best shape of his career. He also appears to be trying to be more friendly to the media which will help people's perception of him. Not that that matters to me, but if you want to be considered one of the top QB's you do need to pander to the media. They drive the "hype train".

Cutler gets better with more time. He reminds me of Elway (it was Elway right?)

I agree, Cutler has lots of physical potential, but lets not get ahead of us here. His decision making ability still needs work. He needs to cut down on his ints. I'd like to see him win a few big games. On the other hand, it's great that we've finally got a qb that other teams need to respect.
