honestly...all we are is a solid OL away from winning it all i think.
So no...id say focus on building, not tearing apart. Focus all energies (win or lose this year) on rebuilding the OL. Sure, we can use some depth/options for the secondary and a good WR or 2, but those should be secondary concerns to fixing the OL.
And yes, i know.."fix the OL" is the same mantra for years now...and still hasnt been done. Problem with getting a new OC is that Cutler and the rest of the O will have to re-learn a new playbook and what the OC wants, so how long is that gonna take? And even if we DO replace Martz with a better OC, what success will he have with this OL?

the fact Martz wasnt offered an extension with everyone else and Tice was given a raise tells me JA trust of Martz was never there and if this continues you might see the change mid way through the season

Just seems like a tear-down/rebuild would take at least 3 years longer then righting the course we've already chosen.
Keep imagining how beautiful it would be to watch this offense behind a serviceable OL.
You never know we fire Martz and get some new offensive staff and they actually get the players and set up the offense to the abilities of the players. Not make the players do something they don't have the talent or ability to pull off.

Without that extension Martz is a lame duck and if the Bears drop out of playoff contention or if we lose Cutler to Martz's idiotic gameplans and play calling then I would dust him before the year is up and this is the guys I would bring in. Bates is the guy who ran the Broncos offense which finished 2nd in the NFL in 2008, his last year with Denver, and coached Cutler to a Pro-Bowl bid that year. I think the Bears were interested in him but he went with his old USC partner, Pete Carroll, but Carroll fired him this past February and as far as I can tell he's not coaching anywhere right now. This guy is a far better fit for both Jay Cutler and the Bears than Mike Martz will ever be.
As for the poll. Lovie and JA are both signed through 2013 and I don't see JA firing Lovie or Ted Phillips firing JA so any choice that includes getting rid of those two is most likely moot. I would not promote Tice to OC either but rather bring in an experienced QB coach and play caller like Bates and then have the two of them work co-operatively on game plans. Tice is already an Asst. HC so he has some authority in that regard anyway. I'm betting he just has a tough time excercising it with Martz around.
PS: Almost forgot. Bates can bring a Josh McDaniels voodoo doll with him and he and Jay can take turns sticking pins in it. The reason Bates left the Broncos is that McDaniels basically told him that he intended to coach Cutler and call the plays himself and wanted to demote him back to a WR coach. Bates left for USC right after that.

At the very minimum fire Phillips, Angelo and Martz. I'm that pissed at Angelo and Martz especially that Lovie has somehow managed to go up in my estimation by comparison.
Quality high offensive drafting? Other than Forte and Carimi, forget it. Olsen could have graded out as a first rounder if he was utilised correctly. C.Williams, well he's fallen that far that nobody in the media is calling for him to start over Omiyale at tackle, there seems to be more about Louis moving outside to his college position.
Quality marquee offensive free agents? For the most part, forget it. Peppers was undoubtedly top drawer for the cherished d, but for the unloved bastard that is the o, two astronomical bust outs in Manu and Taylor, plus a bunch of average joes or cast offs in Spaeth, Spencer, Barber (but who hopefully may yet run hard enough to compensate for an ol that couldn't open an envelope) and R.Williams. Angelo seemed to smugly think that his job was done when he went all in for Cutler. I'm struggling to remember a top free agent for the o since Tait and Brown.
I can't wait until we get a GM who knows how to build a contender for the long term, or even an OC that knows how to make gold out of shit while we're waiting.
