Trib's McNeil Says; "It's Ugly Week"...............
Chicago Bears Ugly week following an ugly game
This has begun quite differently than the blessed 11-5 season of 2010

Ted Phillips is extremely proud of the Bears' website. It gets more even traffic than what you see in the Bears' backfield when Jay Cutler is making a deep dropback. Or when Matt Forte is attempting to run wide.
General manager Jerry Angelo used the team's site Wednesday to address the criticism that's been directed at the offensive line on the heels of Sunday's limp effort in New Orleans. The Bears again are rock bottom in pass protection, allowing an NFL-worst 11 sacks and 18 quarterback hits, which is tied for the most with three other teams.
The Bears front wall is equally challenged on the rare occasions when resident wizard Mike Martz dials up a run. Through two games, they're 27th in rushing, averaging 3.8 yards per carry.
I didn't agree with much of what Angelo said, nor did I care for his on-the-muscle approach. It's unlikely any Bears fan who witnessed the loss to the Saints wants to hear about how hard the Bears worked to upgrade their big uglies in the truncated off-season. Some culpability would be appropriate.
But I'm not desirous of splitting hairs with Angelo on his content. I want to encourage more of it.
If Phillips really wants chicagobears.com to draw "oohs" and "ahhs" when he mingles with team sponsors and season ticket holders at Lake Forest socials, he should have Angelo open up a chat with fans during an actual Bears game.
Unfiltered Gentleman Jer. Let's get into that handbasket!
Since the Bears refuse to be taken seriously with their pre-21st Century offense, they should put themselves on the cutting edge of interactive professional sports. CyberJerry would blow the doors off of 31 other NFL teams' websites on game day.
Boy, doesn't it seem like a long time ago when the Bears were whipping the Atlanta Falcons? This has been an ugly week following an ugly game.
Angelo defending his bad offensive line. Receivers coach Darryl Drake telling us via Tribster Vaughn McClure to pipe down about his guys, urging us to wait until season's end to complain about them.
The injuries are mounting. This has begun quite differently than the blessed 11-5 season of 2010.
You are not crazy for lamenting the absence of Earl Bennett (chest) Sunday when the defending champion Packers roll into town. And a week after watching Cutler target Forte and rookie slot man Dane Sanzenbacher 21 times collectively, it's not out of line to keep your fingers crossed that Roy Williams (groin) returns.
Gabe Carimi's knee injury necessitates another resurrection of Frank Omiyale, who will play right tackle. It sounds like Carimi, Angelo's only hope of a difference-making offensive lineman he drafted, is going to be out at least a month.
Did John St. Clair leave a forwarding number? Kevin Shaffer?
Yeah, It's a divisional home game. Lovie Smith's record against Green Bay is decent, 8-6 in regular season meetings.
True, the Packers have had issues defending the pass in their first two games. And veteran safety Nick Collins is out for the year with a neck injury. Aaron Rodgers' career numbers against the Bears aren't as tasty as his career numbers.
Whoa. I'm not talking myself into the Bears again. There isn't a matchup on the field that favors the hosts. Packers 33, Bears 13.
Doubt that will find its way to the Bears' site.

I love it when sportswriters write "The Emporors New Clothes" articles like this that expose just how naked all of Jerry Angelo and the coaching staffs bullshit quotes really are. McNeil hits on nearly everything that we've all been very cognizant of for days despite all the pissing of koolaid and shitting of cupcakes that have been coming out of Halas Hall this week.
Item number one is that once again the offensive line ranks as the worst in the league as pass blockers and barely better than that as run blockers and that's with the original starters playing about 75% of the snaps. Do they honestly believe that will improve with Spencer and OMG starting? Or better yet do the really think we'll believe it based on their say so?
I turned handsprings over how he also asks Angelo for some admission of blame and culpabilty for allowing us to go into this season with another weak, inexperienced Oline. All that crap about doing a good job of upgrading isn't gonna fly in the face of what we all witnessed last week and are just as likely to witness again this week. I don't know about the rest of you guys but I don't particulary enjoy having my intelligence insulted by an idiot like Jerry Angelo.
McNeil also gets on board with the thoughts of many of us that we're running a 2001 offense in 2011, won't pay top dollar to extend our best offensive weapon and risking getting our QB put in the emergency room every week. For that Mike Martz says "blame me". Duh!!! You're running the show Mike so who the hell else besides Lovie, for letting you be so stupid, should we blame......Mike Ditka?
Darryl Drake comes on and defends his guys this week after we see them making the same mistakes on routes, adjustments to the throw and drops that we saw last year. Wait til the end of the season????? What about some improvement over last years crap now, or is it being too impatient to expect them to be better this early in the season when we need them to be?????
If the negative traffic on this site is any sign of the fans basic discontent that Official Site must be really going nuts.

Just one more comment to make on this. If JA and this coaching staff is so damn happy and satisfied with this offense then let's see you win with them. No excuses about injuries will be accepted. If the Packers can win a Super Bowl with the injured they had last year this coaching staff needs to prove it's mettle by doing likewise.
If not then the whole staff and GM need to hit the road. I'm sick and tired of them claiming to be so pleased with the personnel we have but coaches who can't seem to get them to "step up" and play when needed. I'm also sick and tired of a GM who can't fix our biggest problems in a year full of free agent Olineman and WR's, can pay a worthless TE $6 mil and and equally worthless RB $7 mil for a year but wants to play Scrooge with the best RB we've had in 20 years.
So you want to come out and insult my intelligence every week with this crap then either put wins where your mouths are or get the fvck out. It's that simple!

That's right. 13mil for a Bubblebutt who would have had a hard time blocking Mark Anderson, and a 3rd down back. But let's dicker with the guy who is 52% of our offensive offense. It's retarded.

Let's not forget that the defense did shitty against New Orleans as well. We couldn't stop diarrhea from running down our legs during the course of the game. People forget that detail. The defense looked TERRIBLE, and I mean TERRIBLE. Just not as bad as the offensive line, in which only three touchdowns have been scored in two games as a result of poor blocking.

ya we seemed to have given Metlon the Manderson treatement after he beat up on some scrubs during the Atl game. Time for him to prove which game was fiction and which was real.

I was under the impression that most of Atlanta's offensive line were in the game throughout, Ric. I could be wrong, but I know that Matt Ryan drove the length of the field a couple of times in the fourth quarter when the game was far out of reach. Against New Orleans, they looked pathetic and couldn't stop Brees from completing his little dump passes that would go for 5-8 yards. He sat back all day and fired the ball, and the Saints actually had a little bit of success running the ball to keep their offensive in some kind of balance.

nope they started a rookie and another guy w/little to no experience in the interior.
